Battle of Edge Hill

On 23 Oct 1642 the Battle of Edge Hill was fought at Edge Hill. The Royal army was commanded by Charles I King England, Scotland and Ireland (with his son Charles II King Scotland, II King England, Scotland and Ireland present), Rupert Palatinate-Simmern 1st Duke Cumberland and Richard Spencer, and included Maurice Palatinate-Simmern, Richard Byron 2nd Baron Byron, Lucius Carey 2nd Viscount Falkland, Charles Cavendish, Spencer Compton 2nd Earl Northampton, Thomas Salusbury 2nd Baronet Salusbury, John Byron 1st Baron Byron and William Feilding 1st Earl Denbigh. George Stewart and Robert Bertie 1582-1642 1st Earl Lindsey were killed. Of the Parliamentary army Basil Feilding 2nd Earl Denbigh and Robert Devereux 3rd Earl Essex. Oliver St John 5th Baron St John Bletso was wounded.
Samuel Sandys commanded a troop of horse at the Battle of Edgehill.
Richard Sandys was killed
Thomas Strickland was knighted on the field for his gallantry at the Battle of Edge Hill.

In 1644 Rupert Palatinate-Simmern 1st Duke Cumberland was created 1st Duke Cumberland (1C 1644), 1st Earl Holderness (2C 1644).

Battle of Lowestoft

On 13 Jun 1665 at the Battle of Lowestoft an English fleet commanded by James II King England, Scotland and Ireland, Rupert Palatinate-Simmern 1st Duke Cumberland and Edward Montagu 1st Earl Sandwich defeated at Dutch Fleet. Charles Berkeley 1st Earl Falmouth (aboard the Royal Charles), Richard Boyle, Charles Maccarthy 2nd Earl Clancarty and Charles Weston 3rd Earl Portland were killed. .

In 1671 Ruperta Palatinate-Simmern was born to Rupert Palatinate-Simmern 1st Duke Cumberland and Margaret "Peg" Hughes.
