Biography of Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming 1494-1547

Between 26 Mar 1491 and 16 Jan 1493 Robert Fleming 1st Lord Fleming (age 77) died. His grandson [his father] John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 26) succeeded 2nd Lord Fleming.

On 12 Jan 1494 Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming was born to John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 29) and Eupheme Drummond.

Before 05 May 1496 [his father] John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 31) and [his mother] Eupheme Drummond were married.

In 1501 sisters [his aunt] Margaret Drummond (age 26), [his mother] Eupheme Drummond and [his aunt] Sibylla Drummond died from poisoning, food poisoning, at Drummond Castle.

Before 13 Feb 1509 [his father] John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 44) and Margaret Stewart were married. She the daughter of Matthew Stewart 2nd Earl Lennox and Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Lennox (age 34). She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Before 26 Apr 1510 John Gordon and [his illegitimate sister-in-law] Margaret Stewart (age 13) were married. She the illegitmate daughter of King James IV of Scotland (age 37) and Margaret Drummond. He the son of Alexander Gordon 3rd Earl Huntley and Jean Stewart Countess Huntley (age 49). They were half second cousin once removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Around 1518 [his father] John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 53) and [his step-mother] Agnes Somerville Countess Rothes (age 20) were married. The difference in their ages was 33 years.

In or before 1523 John Drummond 2nd of Innerpeffray (age 37) and [his illegitimate sister-in-law] Margaret Stewart (age 25) were married. She the illegitmate daughter of King James IV of Scotland and Margaret Drummond. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Around 01 Nov 1524 [his father] John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming (age 59) died. His son Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 30) succeeded 3rd Lord Fleming.

On 26 Feb 1525 Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 31) and Janet Stewart Lady Fleming (age 22) were married. She by marriage Lord Fleming. She the illegitmate daughter of King James IV of Scotland and Isobel Stewart. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

In 1529 [his daughter] Margaret Fleming Countess Atholl was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 34) and [his wife] Janet Stewart Lady Fleming (age 26).

In 1529 [his son] John Fleming 5th Lord Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 34) and [his wife] Janet Stewart Lady Fleming (age 26).

In 1534 [his son] James Fleming 4th Lord Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 39) and [his wife] Janet Stewart Lady Fleming (age 31).

                    On 25 Nov 1542 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 47) commanded the English forces at Battle of Solway Moss at Solway Moss, Cumberland [Map]. John Thynne (age 27) fought. Of the Scottish army Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48), Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 27) and Laurence Oliphant 3rd Lord Oliphant fought.                

                    William Graham 3rd Earl Menteith (age 42) was captured. He was ransomed in 1453.                

                    William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 49) was captured and committed to the custody of Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 69). He was released on payment of a ransom of a thousand pounds and subscribing by his own hand to support Henry VIII's (age 51) project of a marriage between the young King Edward VI of England and Ireland (age 5) and the Mary Queen of Scots.                

                    Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48) was captured.

Before 10 Sep 1547 [his son-in-law] Robert Graham Master of Montrose and [his daughter] Margaret Fleming Countess Atholl (age 18) were married. He the son of William Graham 2nd Earl Montrose (age 55) and Janet Keith Countess Montrose. They were half second cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

                    On 10 Sep 1547 an English army commanded by Edward Seymour 1st Duke Somerset (age 47) defeated a Scottish army commanded by James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 31) and Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 58) at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh at Musselburgh.                

                    The English army included John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland (age 43), Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 47), Miles Partridge and Thomas Wentworth 2nd Baron Wentworth (age 22). John Thynne (age 32) and Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos (age 25) were knighted.                

                    William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley (age 26) accompanied Edward Seymour 1st Duke Somerset (age 47).                

                    John Forbes 6th Lord Forbes (age 82), Christopher Coningsby (age 31) and Edward Clere were killed.                

                    John Thynne (age 32) was knighted after the battle.                

                    The Scottish army included John Gordon 11th Earl Sutherland (age 22) who commanded the Rearguard and Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 32). John Stewart, Robert Douglas (age 41), John Livingston, Thomas Hamilton of Priestfield and Hugh Montgomerie were killed. John Hay 4th Lord Hay was captured but soon released.                

                    Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 53) was killed. His son [his son] James Fleming 4th Lord Fleming (age 13) succeeded 4th Lord Fleming. Barbara Hamilton Lady Fleming by marriage Lord Fleming.
                
                    [his son-in-law] Robert Graham Master of Montrose was killed.

Wriothesley's Chronicle 1547. This yeare also the Lord Protectors Grace (age 47) went into Scotlande with an armie riall in the beginning of September, and the 20th daie of September [Note. Mistake for 20 Sep 1547] he had battell with the Scottes within fower miles of Edenboroughe, where, by the power of God, he had the victorie, and there was slaine of the Scottes fiftene thousande, and tow thousand taken prisoners. The Erle of Huntley (age 33), Chauncelor of the Scottes, was one, the Earl of Cassells slaine [Note. Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 32) was captured.], and the Lord Fleeming (deceased). And of Englishemen their were not slaine above an hundred persons in all. The Scottes were numbred above fortie thousande, and the Englishmen not above sixteene thousande; and also they tooke there shipps and all their ordinance, with all the spoile of the fielde, and certeyne castells were yelded to him.

On 01 Jul 1548 Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming was released at a ransom of 1000 marks.

On 20 Feb 1562 [his former wife] Janet Stewart Lady Fleming (age 59) died.

[his daughter] Mary Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming and Janet Stewart Lady Fleming.

[his daughter] Joanna Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming and Janet Stewart Lady Fleming.

[his daughter] Agnes Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming and Janet Stewart Lady Fleming.

[his daughter] Elizabeth Fleming was born to Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming and Janet Stewart Lady Fleming.

William Livingstone 6th Lord Livingstone and [his daughter] Agnes Fleming were married. He the son of Alexander Livingston 5th Lord Livingston and Agnes Douglas Countess March. They were half third cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.
