York Minster Chapter House

The Chapter House, diameter 19m, height 20m, was built between 1260 and 1286 in the English Decorated Gothic style.

Edward I's Parliament of 1297 was held here. Edward II subsequently held Parliament here.

The Chapter House is unusual, and better, for not having a central column to support the roof. The ceiling is suspended from the roof above; unique at the time of construction.

The canopy carvings above the seats are very fine reflecting the people, hair styles and clothes of the late 13th Century.
