Kings Screen, York Minster
The Quire (Choir) Screen is also known as the Kings' Screen or Pulpitum.
Originally designed to be the fourteen English Kings from William I "The Conqueror" to Henry V. The statues, now plain, would originally have been painted in bright colours. The screen was subsequently designed to include Henry VI following the short reign of Henry V (1413-1422). The statue of Henry VI attracted unwanted attention after his murder so was removed and replaced several times. The current statue of Henry VI at the right end is noticeably different to the others being completed by Michael Taylor in 1810.
