Murder of King Edward Martyr

On 18 Mar 978 Edward "Martyr" I King England 962-978 (16) was murdered at Corfe Castle when visiting [his father] Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (12) and his mother Aelfthryth Queen Consort England 945-1000 (33). He was buried in Wareham without ceremony. His brother Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (12) succeeded  II King England.

Around 985 [his father] Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (19) and Aelfgifu Northumbria Queen Consort England were married. She  by marriage Queen Consort England.

In 1002 [his father] Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (36) and [his mother] Emma Normandy Queen Consort England 985-1052 (17) were married. She (17) by marriage Queen Consort England.

Around 1003 Edward "Confessor" King England 1003-1066 was born to [his father] Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (37) and [his mother] Emma Normandy Queen Consort England 985-1052 (18) at Islip.

On 23 Apr 1016 [his father] Æthelred "Unready" II King England 966-1016 (50) died. His son [his half-brother] Edmund "Ironside" I King England 1015-1016 (26) succeeded I King England although tthe Witan meeting at Southampton chose Canute aka Cnut King England 995-1035 (21).

Death of King Edmund Ironside

On 30 Nov 1016 [his half-brother] Edmund "Ironside" I King England 1015-1016 (26) died. The cause of death is unknown. Some chroniclers describe murder, some describe wounds from battle. He ws buried near his grandfather Edgar "Peaceful" I King England 943-975 in Glastonbury Abbey.

The chronicle of Florence of Worcester recorded a bit more information, stating that Rhys was killed at "Bulendun", which may be Bullen's Bank near Clyro in Radnorshire.

Consecration of Westminster Abbey
