Biography of Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield 1677-1708

On 24 Jan 1644 [her grandfather] William Savile 3rd Baronet (age 32) died. His son [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 10) succeeded 4th Baronet Savile of Thornhill.

In 1656 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 22) and Dorothy Spencer Lady Savile (age 16) were married. She by marriage Lady Savile of Thornhill. She the daughter of Henry Spencer 1st Earl of Sunderland and Dorothy Sidney Countess Sunderland (age 38).

In 1672 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 38) and [her mother] Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax were married. She by marriage Lady Savile of Thornhill. They were third cousins.

Around 1677 Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield was born to George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 43) and Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax.

On 31 Dec 1677 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 44) was created 1st Viscount Halifax, 1st Baron Savile of Elland. [her mother] Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax by marriage Viscountess Halifax.

In 1679 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 45) was created 1st Earl Halifax. [her mother] Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax by marriage Countess Halifax.

In 1682 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 48) was created 1st Marquess Halifax. [her mother] Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax by marriage Marchioness Halifax.

In 1692 Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 18) and Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield (age 15) were married. She the daughter of George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 58) and Gertrude Pierrepont Marchioness Halifax. He the son of Philip Stanhope 2nd Earl Chesterfield (age 58) and Elizabeth Dormer Countess Chesterfield 1653-1677.

Before 22 Sep 1694 [her daughter] Gertrude Stanhope Baroness Hotham was born to [her husband] Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 21) and Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield (age 17).

On 22 Sep 1694 [her son] Philip Stanhope 4th Earl Chesterfield was born to [her husband] Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 21) and Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield (age 17).

On 05 Apr 1695 [her father] George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 61) died apparently as a consequence of eating undercooked chicken. He was buried in the north aisle of the King Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey [Map]. His son [her half-brother] William Savile 2nd Marquess Halifax 1665-1700 (age 30) succeeded 2nd Marquess Halifax, 2nd Earl Halifax, 2nd Viscount Halifax, 2nd Baron Savile of Elland, 5th Baronet Savile of Thornhill. Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe 1677- (age 18) by marriage Marchioness Halifax.

Evelyn's Diary. 07 Apr 1695. [her father] Lord Halifax (deceased) died suddenly at London, the day his daughter (age 18) was married to the [her father-in-law] Earl of Nottingham's (age 61) [her husband] son (age 22) at Burleigh. Lord H. was a very rich man, very witty, and in his younger days somewhat positive.

In Jun 1698 Thomas Coke (age 24) and [her sister-in-law] Mary Stanhope (age 24) were married. She the daughter of Philip Stanhope 2nd Earl Chesterfield (age 64) and Elizabeth Dormer Countess Chesterfield 1653-1677.

In 1702 [her son] William Stanhope was born to [her husband] Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 28) and Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield (age 25).

In 1704 [her sister-in-law] Mary Stanhope (age 30) died.

In 1708 Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield (age 31) died. She was buried with her parentrrs in Westminster Abbey [Map].

On 28 Jan 1714 [her former father-in-law] Philip Stanhope 2nd Earl Chesterfield (age 80) died. He was buried at Shelford [Map]. His son [her former husband] Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 40) succeeded 3rd Earl Chesterfield, 3rd Baron Stanhope of Shelford in Nottinghamshire. Elizabeth Savile Countess Chesterfield by marriage Countess Chesterfield.

On 27 Jan 1726 [her former husband] Philip Stanhope 3rd Earl Chesterfield (age 52) died. His son [her son] Philip Stanhope 4th Earl Chesterfield (age 31) succeeded 4th Earl Chesterfield, 4th Baron Stanhope of Shelford in Nottinghamshire.
