On 18 Aug 1855 [her grandfather] George Montagu 6th Duke Manchester (age 56) died. His son [her father] William Drogo Montagu 7th Duke Manchester 1823-1890 (age 31) succeeded 7th Duke Manchester, 10th Earl Manchester, 10th Viscount Mandeville, 10th Baron Montagu of Kimbolton. [her mother] Louisa Vonalten Duchess Devonshire and Manchester (age 23) by marriage Duchess Manchester.

On 17 Jan 1856 Louisa Augusta Beatrice Montagu Countess Gosford was born to William Drogo Montagu 7th Duke Manchester 1823-1890 (age 32) and Louisa Vonalten Duchess Devonshire and Manchester (age 23).

On 02 Feb 1856 Francis Foljambe (age 25) and [her future sister-in-law] Gertrude Emily Acheson were married. She the daughter of Archibald Acheson 3rd Earl Gosford 1806-1864 (age 49) and Theodosia Brabazon Countess Gosford 1811-1876 (age 45).

Her Royal Highness the Princess Victoria (age 38) accompanied Their Majesties to Calais [Map], and proceeded to Christiania on a visit to Their Majesties the King (age 34) and Queen of Norway (age 37).

Lady Eva Dugdale and Colonel Sir Henry Knollys (age 66) (Comptroller and Private Secretary to Her Majesty the Queen of Norway (age 66) were in attendance upon Her Royal Highness. The King and Queen are travelling u the Duke and Duchess of Lancaster. The Countess of Gosford has succeeded Lady Alice Stanley as Lady in Waiting to Her Majesty.

The Prince of Wales (age 41), accompanied by Prince Edward of Wales (age 12), was present at Victoria Station, and took leave of the King (age 65) and Queen (age 62) on Their Majesties' departure for Paris. The Hon. Derek Keppel (age 43) was in attendance.

The marriage of Viscount Acheson (age 33), elder son of the [her husband] Earl (age 68) and Countess of Gosford (age 54), and Miss Mildred Carter (age 22), only daughter of Mr. J. Ridgely Carter (age 46), American Minister to Rumania, and Mrs. Ridgely Carter (age 45), took place yesterday at St. George's, Hanover-square. The Sub-Dean of the Chapels Royal (the Rev. Edgar Sheppard, D.D.) performed the ceremony, assisted by the Rev. David Anderson and other clergy, and Mr. Ridgely Carter (age 46) gave his daughter away. She wore a very simple wedding gown of soft white satin with a long train draped with old point de Venise, and a Venetian lace cap over a spray of myrtle and orange blossom, covered by a plain tulle veil. Master David Stanley, Master Julian Ward, and Miss Diana Roberts, dressed all in white, followed the bride, and there were seven bridesmaids, [her daughter] Lady Theo Acheson (age 28) (sister of the bridegroom), Lady Victoria Stanley, Mlle. Irene deo La Grange, Miss Canilla Morgan, the Hon. Rhoda Astley, Miss Elsie Nicholl, and Miss Marian Scranton, who wore white chiffon dresses with draped bodices and wreaths of myrtle beneath tulle veils. They also wore diamond neckislides and carried loose bunches of red roses. The [her son] Hon. Patrick Acheson (age 26) was best man to his brother.
