Biography of Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon 1613-1679

The Huntingdon Peerage Chapter IX Ferdinando Sixth Earl of Huntingdon. [her future husband] FERDINANDO, sixth Earl of Huntingdon, heir and successor of [her future father-in-law] Henry the fifth Earl (age 21), was born at Ashby [Map], January 11th, 1608. In March, 1627, he was returned to serve in Parliament for the county of Leicester, and two years after was joined with his father in the Lieutenancy of the counties of Leicester and Rutland. By indenture, dated May, 1638, he and his brother [her future brother-in-law] Henry, in consideration of the sum of 4,50l. granted, to John Earl of Bridgewater (age 29) and Thomas Davies, a moiety of the rectory of Mould, otherwise Mouldesdale, in Flintshire. On the 13th of November, 1641, his father being then still living, he had summons to Parliament amongst the barons of the realm; and in 1643 he succeeded to the family honours. He married Lucy, daughter and sole heir to [her father] Sir John Davys (age 38), of Englefield, Berks, Knt. (Premier Serjeant at Law to James the First, and Charles the First, as also Solicitor, and afterwards Attorney General in Ireland, and finally Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench,) by his wife [her mother] Lady Eleanor (age 18), youngest daughter of [her grandfather] George Lord Audley, Earl of Castlehaven (age 57), and, settling at Donnington Park, had by her four sons; Henry, John, Ferdinando, and [her son] Theophilus, born after the decease of his three brothers; and likewise six daughters, Alice, Eleanor, both of whom died young; Elizabeth, married to [her future son-in-law] Sir James Laughan, of Cottesbroke, in Nottinghamshire, Bart, being his second wife, and dying without issue; Lucy, who died unmarried; Mary, espoused to Sir William Joliffe, of Caverswell Castle in Staffordshire, Knt.; and lastly Christiana.

In Mar 1609 [her father] John Davies (age 39) and [her mother] Eleanor Tuchet (age 19) were married. The difference in their ages was 20 years. She the daughter of George Tuchet 1st Earl Castlehaven (age 58) and Lucy Mervyn Baroness Audley and Tuchet.

In 1613 Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon was born to John Davies (age 43) and Eleanor Tuchet (age 23).

On 07 Aug 1623 Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 15) and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 10) were married. He the son of Henry Hastings 5th Earl Huntingdon (age 37) and Elizabeth Stanley Countess Huntingdon (age 35). He a great x 4 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 08 Dec 1626 [her father] John Davies (age 57) died of apoplexy.

On 16 Jan 1630 [her son] Henry Hastings was born to [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 21) and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 17).

On 03 Aug 1632 [her son] John Hastings was born to [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 24) and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 19).

On 16 Feb 1637 [her son] Ferdinando Hastings was born to [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 29) and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 24).

In Dec 1639 [her son] John Hastings (age 7) died.

On 23 Oct 1643 [her brother-in-law] Henry Hastings 1st Baron Loughborough (age 33) was created 1st Baron Loughborough.

On 14 Nov 1643 [her father-in-law] Henry Hastings 5th Earl Huntingdon (age 57) died. His son [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 35) succeeded 6th Earl Huntingdon, 11th Baron Botreaux, 10th Baron Hungerford, 8th Baron Moleyns and 8th Baron Hastings. Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 30) by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

On 08 May 1647 [her son] Ferdinando Hastings (age 10) died.

On 24 Jun 1649 [her son] Henry Hastings (age 19) died of smallpox.

On 10 Dec 1650 [her son] Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon was born to [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 42) and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 37).

In 1652 [her mother] Eleanor Tuchet (age 62) died.

On 13 Feb 1656 [her husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon (age 48) died. His son [her son] Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon (age 5) succeeded 7th Earl Huntingdon, 12th Baron Botreaux, 11th Baron Hungerford, 9th Baron Moleyns and 9th Baron Hastings.

On 17 Dec 1656 Gervase Clifton 1st Baronet (age 69) and [her former sister-in-law] Alice Hastings Lady Clifton (age 50) were married at St Andrew Undershaft, Aldgate Ward. She by marriage Lady Clifton of Clifton in Nottinghamshire. She the daughter of Henry Hastings 5th Earl Huntingdon and Elizabeth Stanley Countess Huntingdon. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Around 18 Nov 1662 [her son-in-law] James Langham 2nd Baronet (age 42) and [her daughter] Elizabeth Hastings were married. She the daughter of Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 49). She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 28 Mar 1664 [her daughter] Elizabeth Hastings died.

On 10 Jan 1666 [her former brother-in-law] Henry Hastings 1st Baron Loughborough (age 55) died. Baron Loughborough extinct.

In 1667 [her former sister-in-law] Alice Hastings Lady Clifton (age 61) died.

Evelyn's Diary. 19 Aug 1671. I dined at the Hamburg Resident's, and, after dinner, went to the christening of Sir Samuel Tuke's (age 56) son, Charles, at Somerset House, by a Popish priest, and many odd ceremonies. The godfathers were the King (age 41), and Lord Arundel of Wardour (age 63), and godmother, the Countess of Huntingdon (age 58). [Note. This must refer to the Dowager Countess of Huntingdon wife of [her former husband] Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon since his successor [her son] Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon (age 20) didn't marry until 1672.].

On 19 Feb 1672 [her son] Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon (age 21) and [her daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Lewis Countess Huntingdon (age 18) were married. She by marriage Countess Huntingdon. He the son of Ferdinando Hastings 6th Earl Huntingdon and Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 59). He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 14 Nov 1679 Lucy Davies Countess Huntingdon (age 66) died.
