In 1822 Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville 1st Duke of Buckingham and Chandos (age 45) was created 1st Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, 1st Marquess of Chandos, 1st Earl Temple of Stowe. The latter title, Earl Temple of Stowe, was created with remainder to his granddaughter Anna Eliza Mary Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville (age 1). Anne Elizabeth Brydges Duchess Buckingham and Chandos (age 43) by marriage Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos.

On 28 Mar 1902 William Stephen Temple Gore-Langton 4th Earl Temple (age 54) died at Cairo, Egypt to where he had travelled with his wife Helen for his health. His son Algernon Temple-Gore-Langton 5th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 30) succeeded 5th Earl Temple of Stowe.

On 19 Feb 1940 Algernon Temple-Gore-Langton 5th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 68) died without issue. His nephew Chandos Temple-Gore-Langton 6th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 30) succeeded 6th Earl Temple of Stowe.

On 14 Apr 1966 Chandos Temple-Gore-Langton 6th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 56) died. His brother Ronald Temple-Gore-Langton 7th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 55) succeeded 7th Earl Temple of Stowe.

In 1988 Ronald Temple-Gore-Langton 7th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 77) died. His first cousin Walter Temple-Gore-Langton 8th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 63) succeeded 8th Earl Temple of Stowe.

On 17 Sep 2013 Walter Temple-Gore-Langton 8th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 88) died. His son James Temple-Gore-Langton 9th Earl Temple of Stowe (age 58) succeeded 9th Earl Temple of Stowe.
