6. It is ordered and commanded to the "Keeper of the Seal" or to the "Chamberlain of Scotland" or his deputy at Berwick upon Tweed that in one of the towers within the castle of the same place, where he sees it fitting to have it made more suitable, to construct a strong cage made of stout wood, well barred and properly reinforced, in which he will place the Countess of Buchan, ensuring that she cannot escape in any way from that cage. And he shall assign one or two women from the said town of Berwick, Englishwomen, who are not under any suspicion of intending to take the said Countess food or drink, or other things that will be brought to her during her stay, and that he makes sure that she is guarded so well and so closely in the cage that she cannot speak to anyone, neither man nor woman, who is of the Scottish nation or any other, except only the woman or women who are assigned to her and those who will have charge of her. And that the cage be arranged so that the Countess has the convenience of a chamber, but that it is arranged so well and so securely that nothing can happen regarding the custody of the said Countess, and that he who has charge of her is held responsible for her person and that he is allowed expenses.
