The History of William Marshal, Earl of Chepstow and Pembroke, Regent of England. Book 1 of 2, Lines 1-10152.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

Biography of Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden 1759-1851

On 8th August 1756 [her future husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 26] and Letitia Vernon were married.

In 1759 Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden was born to Thomas Monck of Kildare Street Dublin.

On 10th June 1766 [her future husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 36] and Mary Allen were married.

In 1772 [her father] Thomas Monck of Kildare Street Dublin died.

On 17th May 1777 Thomas Maude 1st Baron Montalt [aged 50] died unmarried. Baron Montalt of Hawarden in Tipperary extinct. His brother [her future husband] Cornwallis [aged 47] succeeded 3rd Baronet of Dundrum in Tipperary. Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 18] by marriage Lady of Dundrum in Tipperary.

On 3rd June 1777 Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 47] and Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 18] were married. The difference in their ages was 29 years.

On 27th March 1780 [her son] Cornwallis Maude 3rd Viscount Hawarden was born to [her husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 50] and Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 21]. He married 8th July 1811 Jane Crawfurd Bruce and had issue.

Around 1783 [her daughter] Alicia Maude was born to [her husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 53] and Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 24]. She married May 1807 Reverend Robert Ponsonby Tottenham, son of Charles Tottenham aka Loftus 1st Marquess Ely and Jane Myhill Marchioness Ely, and had issue.

In 1784 [her brother] Charles Stanley Monck 1st Viscount Monck [aged 30] and [her sister-in-law] Anne Quin were married.

On 29th June 1786 [her husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 56] was created 1st Baron Montalt of Hawarden in Tipperary. Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 27] by marriage Baroness Montalt of Hawarden in Tipperary.

On 5th December 1793 [her husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 64] was created 1st Viscount Hawarden. Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 34] by marriage Viscountess Hawarden.

Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 14th December 1798 [her step-son] Thomas Ralph Maude 2nd Viscount Hawarden [aged 31] and Frances Anne Agar Viscountess Hawarden were married. She the daughter of Charles Agar 1st Earl Normanton [aged 61] and Jane Benson Countess Northampton.

On 9th June 1802 [her brother] Charles Stanley Monck 1st Viscount Monck [aged 48] died. His son [her nephew] Henry [aged 16] succeeded 2nd Viscount Monck.

On 23rd August 1803 [her husband] Cornwallis Maude 1st Viscount Hawarden [aged 73] died. His son [her step-son] Thomas [aged 36] succeeded 2nd Viscount Hawarden, 2nd Baron Montalt of Hawarden in Tipperary, 4th Baronet of Dundrum in Tipperary. Frances Anne Agar Viscountess Hawarden by marriage Viscountess Hawarden.

In May 1807 [her son-in-law] Reverend Robert Ponsonby Tottenham [aged 33] and [her daughter] Alicia Maude [aged 24] were married. He the son of Charles Tottenham aka Loftus 1st Marquess Ely and Jane Myhill Marchioness Ely.

On 8th July 1811 [her son] Cornwallis Maude 3rd Viscount Hawarden [aged 31] and [her daughter-in-law] Jane Crawfurd Bruce were married. She by marriage Viscountess Hawarden.

On 26th July 1851 Anne Isabella Monck Viscountess Hawarden [aged 92] died.
