Biography of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent 1645-1702

On 14th October 1641 [his father] Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent (age 46) and Mary Courtine Countess Kent were married. She by marriage Countess Kent. He the son of [his grandfather] Anthony Grey 9th Earl Kent (age 84) and [his grandmother] Magdelane Purefoy Countess Kent (age 69).

Before 1643 Anthony Fane (age 29) and [his mother] Amabel Benn Countess Kent (age 35) were married. He the son of Francis Fane 1st Earl of Westmoreland and Mary Mildmay Countess of Westmoreland.

On 1st August 1644 [his father] Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent (age 49) and [his mother] Amabel Benn Countess Kent (age 36) were married. She by marriage Countess Kent. He the son of [his grandfather] Anthony Grey 9th Earl Kent and [his grandmother] Magdelane Purefoy Countess Kent (age 72).

On 11th June 1645 Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent was born to Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent (age 50) and Amabel Benn Countess Kent (age 37).

On 28th May 1651 [his father] Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent (age 56) died. Monument made in 1658 at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map]. His son Anthony (age 5) succeeded 11th Earl Kent.

Between 2nd March 1662 and 1671 Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 16) and Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 18) were married. She by marriage Countess Kent. He the son of Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent and Amabel Benn Countess Kent (age 54).

On 7th May 1663 [his wife] Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 19) was created 1st Baroness Lucas of Crudwell with a special remainder to her heirs male by her husband Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 17), and failing which, to her heirs female without division; an unusual provision meaning it wouldn't become abeyant in the event of more than one daughter.

John Evelyn's Diary. 3rd May 1664. Came the Earl of Kent (age 18), my kinsman¹, and his [his wife] Lady (age 20), to visit us.

Note 1. John Evelyn (age 43) and Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent were first cousin twice removed; Anthony Grey's maternal grandmother was [his grandmother] Jane Evelyn (age 76). She and John Evelyn had the same grandfather George Evelyn of Long Ditton.

In 1671 [his son] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent was born to Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 25) and [his wife] Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 27).

On 20th April 1695 [his son] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 24) and [his daughter-in-law] Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 19) were married. They had five sons and seven daughters of whom only three surviving her. He the son of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 49) and [his wife] Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 51).

In 17th August 1698 [his mother] Amabel Benn Countess Kent (age 90) died. She was interred with her former husband [his father] Henry Grey 10th Earl Kent who had died some 45 and more years before at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map] - see Monument.

On 19th August 1702 Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 57) died. His son [his son] Henry (age 31) succeeded 12th Earl Kent. [his daughter-in-law] Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 27) by marriage Countess Kent.

On 1st November 1702 [his former wife] Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 58) died. Her son [his son] Henry (age 31) succeeded 2nd Baron Lucas of Crudwell.
