Biography of Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby -1704

Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby was born to [her father]  and [her mother] .

On 24th August 1658 (age 46) died. His son [her future husband] John (age 10) succeeded 3rd Earl Mulgrave, 5th Baron Sheffield of Butterwick in Lincolnshire.

On 12th January 1665 [her father]  (age 21) and [her mother]  (age 19) were married at St Bartholomew the Less.

On 28th July 1667 Abraham Cowley (age 49) died in Porch House. He was buried in Westminster Abbey [Map] where [her future husband] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 19) subsequently commissioned a monument.

In 1674 [her future husband] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 25) was appointed 479th Knight of the Garter by King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 43).

On 17th February 1677 [her uncle] Robert Greville 4th Baron Brooke (age 38) died at Bath, Somerset [Map]. His brother [her father] Fulke (age 33) succeeded 5th Baron Brooke of Beauchamps Court in Warwickshire. [her mother]  (age 31) by marriage Baroness Brooke of Beauchamps Court in Warwickshire.

On 18th March 1686 [her future husband] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 37) and were married at the chapel of Littlecote House. She by marriage Countess Mulgrave. He the son of and (age 78).

Around 1687 [her daughter]  was born to [her future husband]  (age 26) and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby. She married 26th February 1706 her fourth cousin Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort and had issue.

On 30th December 1687 (age 26) and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby were married. He the son of Edward Noel 1st Earl Gainsborough (age 46) and Elizabeth Wriothesley Countess Gainsborough (age 41).

Around 1688 [her daughter]  was born to [her husband]  (age 27) and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby in Gainsborough [Map]. She married before 1st March 1709 her third cousin twice removed , son of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and , and had issue.

In January 1689 [her father-in-law] Edward Noel 1st Earl Gainsborough (age 48) died. His son [her husband] Wriothesley (age 28) succeeded 2nd Earl Gainsborough, 5th Viscount Campden, 5th Baron Hicks of Ilmington in Warwickshire. Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby by marriage Countess Gainsborough.

On 21st September 1690 [her husband]  (age 29) died. His half first cousin Baptist (age 6) succeeded 3rd Earl Gainsborough, 6th Viscount Campden, 6th Baron Hicks of Ilmington in Warwickshire.

On 25th February 1695 [her brother-in-law] Francis North 2nd Baron Guildford (age 21) and [her sister]  were married. She by marriage Baroness Guildford.

On 12th March 1699 John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 50) and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby were married at St Clement Danes Church, Westminster [Map]. She by marriage Countess Mulgrave. He the son of and (age 91). They were sixth cousins.

On 4th November 1699 [her sister]  died in childbirth.

In 1703 [her husband] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 54) was created 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby. Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby by marriage Duchess of Buckingham and Normanby.

The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. She by marriage Duchess of Buckingham and Normanby. The difference in their ages was 31 years. She the illegitmate daughter of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland and Catherine Sedley Countess Dorchester and Portmore (age 47). He the son of and (age 97).

On 24th February 1721 [her former husband] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (age 72) died. His son Edmund (age 5) succeeded 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, 4th Earl Mulgrave, 6th Baron Sheffield of Butterwick in Lincolnshire.
