Biography of Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater 1656-1716

On 28th February 1652 [her father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 22) and Christian Freschville (age 18) were married. He the son of [her grandfather] John Paulet 5th Marquess Winchester (age 54) and [her grandmother] Jane Savage Marchioness Winchester.

On 12th February 1655 Henry Carey and [her mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester were married at St Dionis Backchurch. She the illegitmate daughter of [her grandfather] Emanuel Scrope 1st Earl of Sunderland and [her grandmother] Martha Jeanes. He the son of Henry Carey 2nd Earl Monmouth (age 59) and Martha Cranfield Countess Monmouth (age 54). They were second cousins.

On 12th February 1655 [her father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 25) and [her mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester were married. She the illegitmate daughter of [her grandfather] Emanuel Scrope 1st Earl of Sunderland and [her grandmother] Martha Jeanes. He the son of [her grandfather] John Paulet 5th Marquess Winchester (age 57) and [her grandmother] Jane Savage Marchioness Winchester. They were fourth cousin once removed.

Around 1656 Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater was born to Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 26) and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester.

On 7th November 1664 [her future husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 17) and Elizabeth Cranfield were married. She the daughter of James Cranfield 2nd Earl Middlesex and Anne Bourchier Countess Middlesex (age 33). He the son of [her future father-in-law] John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater (age 41) and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 2nd April 1673 John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 26) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 17) were married at St Dionis Backchurch. She the daughter of Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 43) and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester. He the son of John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater (age 49) and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 7th May 1675 [her son] Charles Egerton was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 28) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 19).

On 14th May 1676 [her daughter] Mary Egerton Baroness Byron was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 29) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 20).

On 15th August 1679 [her son] Thomas Egerton was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 32) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 23).

On 1st November 1680 [her mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester died.

On 11th August 1681 [her son] Scroop Egerton 1st Duke Bridgewater was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 34) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 25).

In 1684 [her son] William Egerton was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 37) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 28).

On 26th October 1686 [her father-in-law] John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater (age 63) died. He was buried at St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden. His son [her husband] John (age 39) succeeded 3rd Earl Bridgewater, 4th Viscount Brackley, 4th Baron Ellesmere. Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 30) by marriage Countess Bridgewater.

John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater: On 9th November 1646 he was born to John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. In April 1687 [her son] Thomas Egerton (age 7) burned to death in the fire which destroyed Bridgewater House. He was buried at Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire.

On 10th February 1689 [her son] Bishop Henry Egerton was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 42) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 33).

Around 1694 [her son] Charles Egerton was born to [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 47) and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 38).

On 6th March 1698 Philip Sidney 3rd Earl of Leicester (age 79) died. His son Robert (age 49) succeeded 4th Earl of Leicester, 4th Viscount Lisle. [her sister-in-law] Elizabeth Egerton Countess Leicester (age 44) by marriage Countess of Leicester.

On 27th February 1699 [her father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 69) died. His son [her brother] Charles (age 38) succeeded 2nd Duke Bolton, 7th Marquess Winchester, 7th Earl Wiltshire, 7th Baron St John.

On 19th March 1701 [her husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 54) died. He was buried in the Bridgewater Chapel, St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden. His son [her son] Scroop (age 19) succeeded 4th Earl Bridgewater, 5th Viscount Brackley, 5th Baron Ellesmere.

In 1703 [her son-in-law] William Byron 4th Baron Byron (age 32) and [her daughter] Mary Egerton Baroness Byron (age 26) were married. She by marriage Baroness Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire. She the daughter of [her former husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 47).

On 9th February 1703 [her son] Scroop Egerton 1st Duke Bridgewater (age 21) and [her daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Churchill Countess Bridgewater (age 15) were married. She by marriage Countess Bridgewater. She the daughter of John Churchill 1st Duke of Marlborough (age 52) and Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough (age 42). He the son of [her former husband] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 47).

On 11th April 1704 [her daughter] Mary Egerton Baroness Byron (age 27) died.

Around 1707 [her son] John Egerton died.

On 23rd May 1716 Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 60) died. She was buried at St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden on 30th May 1716.

Elizabeth Churchill Countess Bridgewater: On 15th March 1687 she was born to John Churchill 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough. John Evelyn's Diary. 1st December 1702. After the excess of honor conferred by the Queen on the Earl of Marlborough, by making him a Knight of the Garter and a Duke, for the success of but one campaign, that he should desire £5,000 a year to be settled on him by Parliament out of the Post Office, was thought a bold and unadvised request, as he had, besides his own considerable estate, above £30,000 a year in places and employments, with £50,000 at interest. He had married one daughter to the son of my Lord Treasurer Godolphin, another to the Earl of Sunderland, and a third to the Earl of Bridgewater. He is a very handsome person, well-spoken and affable, and supports his want of acquired knowledge by keeping good company. On 9th February 1703 Scroop Egerton 1st Duke Bridgewater and she were married. She by marriage Countess Bridgewater. She the daughter of John Churchill 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough. He the son of John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater. On 22nd March 1714 Elizabeth Churchill Countess Bridgewater died. She was buried at St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden on 29th March 1714.

John Egerton: On 3rd February 1704 he was born to Scroop Egerton 1st Duke Bridgewater and Elizabeth Churchill Countess Bridgewater. On 30th January 1719 John Egerton died of smallpox at Eton College on 5th February 1719.
