Biography of Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent 1675-1728

Around 1650 [her father] Thomas Crew 2nd Baron Crew (age 26) and Mary Townshend were married. She the daughter of Roger Townshend 1st Baronet and Mary Vere Countess of Westmoreland (age 42).

In 1674 [her father] Thomas Crew 2nd Baron Crew (age 50) and [her mother] Anne Armine (age 22) were married. The difference in their ages was 28 years.

In May 1675 Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent was born to Thomas Crew 2nd Baron Crew (age 51) and Anne Armine (age 23).

Before 29th April 1681 [her step-father] Thomas Wodehouse and [her mother] Anne Armine (age 29) were married.

On 21st February 1695 [her son] Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas was born to [her future husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 24) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 19).

On 20th April 1695 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 24) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 19) were married. They had five sons and seven daughters of whom only three surviving her. He the son of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 49) and Mary Lucas Countess Kent (age 51).

Around 1696 [her son] Henry Grey was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 25) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 20).

On 30th November 1697 [her father] Thomas Crew 2nd Baron Crew (age 73) died. His brother [her uncle] Nathaniel (age 64) succeeded 3rd Baron Crew of Stene in Northamptonshire. Penelope Frowde Baroness Crewe by marriage Baroness Crew of Stene in Northamptonshire.

After 30th November 1697 [her step-father] Admiral Arthur Herbert 1st Earl Torrington (age 49) and [her mother] Anne Armine (age 45) were married.

On 9th June 1698 [her daughter] Amabel Grey was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 27) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 23).

Around 1699 [her daughter] Jemima Grey Countess Ashburham was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 28) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 23).

On 19th August 1702 [her father-in-law] Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent (age 57) died. His son [her husband] Henry (age 31) succeeded 12th Earl Kent. Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 27) by marriage Countess Kent.

On 20th October 1703 [her daughter] Henrietta de Grey was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 32) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 28).

On 20th January 1706 [her daughter] Anne Grey was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 35) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 30).

In 1710 [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 39) was created 1st Duke Kent, 1st Marquess Kent, 1st Viscount Gooderich. Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 34) by marriage Marchioness Kent.

On 4th January 1717 [her daughter] Henrietta de Grey (age 13) died. Monument at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map].

Henrietta de Grey: On 20th October 1703 she was born to Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent.

On 4th December 1717 [her son] Henry Grey (age 21) died. He was buried at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map].

Henry Grey: Around 1696 he was born to Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent.

On 17th February 1718 [her son] Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas (age 22) and [her daughter-in-law] Mary Tufton Countess Gower were married. She the daughter of Thomas Tufton 6th Earl of Thanet (age 73) and Catherine Cavendish Countess Isle Thanet. He the son of [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 47) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 42). They were sixth cousins.

On 20th February 1718 [her son-in-law] John Campbell 3rd Earl Breadalbaine and Holland (age 21) and [her daughter] Amabel Grey (age 19) were married. She the daughter of [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 47) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 42). He the son of John Campbell 2nd Earl Breadalbaine and Holland (age 55) and Henrietta Villiers Countess Breadalbaine and Holland.

On 2nd April 1719 [her mother] Anne Armine (age 67) died.

In May 1719 [her daughter] Mary Grey was born to [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 48) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 44).

On 21st July 1723 [her son] Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas (age 28) died by choking on an ear of barley the beard of which stuck in his throat. Monument at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map]. His niece [her granddaughter] Jemima succeeded 4th Baroness Lucas of Crudwell.

Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas: On 21st February 1695 he was born to Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent. On 17th February 1718 Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas and Mary Tufton Countess Gower were married. She the daughter of Thomas Tufton 6th Earl of Thanet and Catherine Cavendish Countess Isle Thanet. He the son of Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent. They were sixth cousins. On 8th November 1718 Anthony Grey 3rd Baron Lucas by writ of acceleration 3rd Baron Lucas of Crudwell.

Before 30th October 1724 [her son-in-law] John Ashburnham 1st Earl Ashburnham (age 37) and [her daughter] Jemima Grey Countess Ashburham (age 25) were married. She by marriage Baroness Ashburnham of Ashburnham in Sussex. She the daughter of [her husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 53) and Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 49).

On 2nd August 1726 [her daughter] Amabel Grey (age 28) died. Monument at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map].

On 27th July 1728 Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 53) died. Memorial on her husband's monument at the De Grey Mausoleum, Flitton [Map].

On 24th March 1729 [her former husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 58) and Sophia Bentinck Duchess Kent (age 27) were married. She by marriage Duchess Kent. The difference in their ages was 30 years. She the daughter of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland (age 57). He the son of [her former father-in-law] Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent and [her former mother-in-law] Mary Lucas Countess Kent.

On 5th June 1740 [her former husband] Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 69) died without surviving male issue. Duke Kent, Marquess Kent, Earl Kent and Viscount Gooderich extinct. His granddaughter [her granddaughter] Jemima (age 16) succeeded 2nd Marchioness Grey.
