Biography of John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen 1768-1840

In November 1763 [his father] William Willoughby Cole 1st Earl Enniskillen (age 27) and [his mother] Anne Lowry-Corry Countess Enniskillen (age 21) were married.

On 23rd March 1768 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen was born to William Willoughby Cole 1st Earl Enniskillen (age 32) and Anne Lowry-Corry Countess Enniskillen (age 26).

In 1790 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 21) was elected MP Sligo Borough.

In 1798 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 29) was elected MP Sligo Borough.

In September 1802 [his mother] Anne Lowry-Corry Countess Enniskillen (age 60) died.

On 22nd May 1803 [his father] William Willoughby Cole 1st Earl Enniskillen (age 67) died. His son John (age 35) succeeded 2nd Earl Enniskillen.

In 1805 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 36) and Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 23) were married. She by marriage Countess Enniskillen. She the daughter of Henry Bayly-Paget 1st Earl Uxbridge (age 60) and Jane Champagné Countess Uxbridge (age 63). He the son of William Willoughby Cole 1st Earl Enniskillen and Anne Lowry-Corry Countess Enniskillen.

On 13th November 1806 John Stewart 7th Earl Galloway (age 70) died. His son George (age 38) succeeded 8th Earl Galloway, 7th Baronet Stewart of Corsewall, 6th Baronet Stewart of Burray in Orkney. [his sister-in-law] Jane Paget Countess Galloway (age 32) by marriage Countess Galloway.

On 25th January 1807 [his son] William Willoughby Cole 3rd Earl Enniskillen was born to John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 38) and [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 25).

On 14th February 1809 [his son] Henry Arthur Cole was born to John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 40) and [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 27).

In 1810 Henry Wellesley 1st Baron Cowley (age 36) and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey (age 28) were divorced by an Act of Parliament following her elopement with [his brother-in-law] Henry Paget (age 41). Following the divorce, Wellesley was awarded £20,000 plus costs in damages against Paget.

On 27th April 1810 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 42) was appointed Knight of the Order of St Patrick.

On 29th November 1810 [his brother-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 42) and Caroline Elizabeth Villiers Duchess Argyll (age 35) were divorced by an act of Parliament as a result of his having had an affair with Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey (age 29) whose husband Henry Wellesley 1st Baron Cowley (age 37) also sought a divorce.

After 19th December 1810 [his brother-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 42) and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey (age 29) were married. She the daughter of Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan and Mary Churchill Countess Cadogan (age 52). He the son of [his father-in-law] Henry Bayly-Paget 1st Earl Uxbridge (age 66) and [his mother-in-law] Jane Champagné Countess Uxbridge (age 68).

On 27th July 1811 [his daughter] Jane Anne Louisa Florence Cole was born to John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 43) and [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 29).

On 13th March 1812 [his father-in-law] Henry Bayly-Paget 1st Earl Uxbridge (age 67) died. He was buried at Lichfield Cathedral [Map]. His son [his brother-in-law] Henry (age 43) succeeded 2nd Earl Uxbridge, 10th Baron Paget Beaudasert, 4th Baronet Bayly of Plas Newydd in Anglesey.

On 8th June 1813 [his son] John Lowry Cole was born to John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 45) and [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 31).

In 1815 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 46) was created 1st Baron Grinstead of Grinstead in Wiltshire. [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 33) by marriage Baroness Grinstead of Grinstead in Wiltshire.

On 6th June 1815 [his son] Lowry Balfour Cole was born to John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 47) and [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 33).

Battle of Quatre Bras

On 16th June 1815 [his brother-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 47) fought and Algernon Frederick Greville (age 16) fought.

James Hay (age 18) was killed.

Fletcher Norton 3rd Baron Grantley (age 16) fought.

General Mildmay Fane (age 20) and Thomas Elmsley Croft 7th Baronet (age 16) were wounded.

On 4th July 1815 [his brother-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 47) was created 1st Marquess Anglesey. Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey (age 33) by marriage Marchioness Anglesey.

On 26th January 1817 [his wife] Charlotte Paget Countess Enniskillen (age 35) died.

On 14th January 1818 [his son] Lowry Balfour Cole (age 2) died.

On 23rd March 1831 [his daughter] Jane Anne Louisa Florence Cole (age 19) died.

On 2nd October 1831 John Cole 2nd Earl Enniskillen (age 63) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of County Fermanagh.
