Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Around 1575 [his daughter] Anne St John Lady Effingham was born to John St John 2nd Baron St John (age 40) and [his wife] Katherine Dormer Baroness St John Bletso. She married 7th February 1597 her third cousin William Howard 3rd Baron Howard of Effingham, son of Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham and Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham, and had issue.
In 1575 John St John 2nd Baron St John (age 40) and Katherine Dormer Baroness St John Bletso were married.
In or before 1580 [his brother] Oliver St John 3rd Baron St John (age 39) and [his sister-in-law] Dorothy Reid Baroness St John Bletso were married. She by marriage Baroness St John of Bletso.
On 21st April 1582 [his father] Oliver St John 1st Baron St John (age 60) died. His son John (age 47) succeeded 2nd Baron St John of Bletso. [his wife] Katherine Dormer Baroness St John Bletso by marriage Baroness St John of Bletso.
In January 1585 John St John 2nd Baron St John (age 50) made keeper of Mary Queen of Scots (age 42) at Tutbury Castle, Staffordshire [Map].
On 14th October 1586 Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton (age 42), Lewis Mordaunt 3rd Baron Mordaunt (age 48), Henry Wentworth 3rd Baron Wentworth (age 28), Christopher Wray (age 62), John Stourton 9th Baron Stourton (age 33) and Edward Zouche 11th Baron Zouche Harringworth (age 30) sat in judgement on Mary Queen of Scots (age 43) in the Presence Chamber of Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire [Map].
