Biography of Richard Hankford 1397-1431

Around 1397 Richard Hankford was born to Richard Hankford.

In 1419 [his father] Richard Hankford died.

Before 1420 Richard Hankford (age 22) and Elizabeth Fitzwarin 8th Baroness Fitzwarin (age 16) were married.

In 1423 [his daughter] Thomasine Hankford 9th Baroness Fitzwarin was born to Richard Hankford (age 26) and [his wife] Elizabeth Fitzwarin 8th Baroness Fitzwarin (age 20).

In or after 1427 [his former wife] Elizabeth Fitzwarin 8th Baroness Fitzwarin (deceased) died. Her daughter [his daughter] Thomasine (age 4) succeeded 9th Baroness Fitzwarin.

Around September 1429 Richard Hankford (age 32) was knighted at St Albans, Hertfordshire [Map].

Before 1431 Richard Hankford (age 33) and Anne Montagu Duchess Exeter (age 30) were married. She the daughter of John Montagu 3rd Earl Salisbury and Maud Francis Countess of Salisbury.

Around 1431 [his daughter] Anne Hankford Countess Ormonde was born to Richard Hankford (age 34) and [his wife] Anne Montagu Duchess Exeter (age 30).

In 1431 Richard Hankford (age 34) died.

After 25th October 1439 John Holland 2nd Duke Exeter (age 44) and [his former wife] Anne Montagu Duchess Exeter (age 39) were married. She by marriage Duchess Exeter. She the daughter of John Montagu 3rd Earl Salisbury and Maud Francis Countess of Salisbury. He the son of John Holland 1st Duke Exeter and Elizabeth Lancaster Duchess Exeter. They were half third cousin once removed. He a great grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

On 28th November 1457 [his former wife] Anne Montagu Duchess Exeter (age 57) died. She was buried at Church of St Katharine's by the Tower [Map].

Licence to found a perpetual chantry for one chaplain in the chapel of St. Mary, called "Hangfordis Chapell," in the church of St. George, Monklee, Devon, to pray for the King and Queen, and for the said Anne, Sir [his great grandson] George Seyntleger (age 35), Thomas Seyntleger, clk., and [his granddaughter] Margaret Boleyn (age 65), widow, and for the souls of Sir [his former son-in-law] Thomas Ormond, late earl of Ormond, and [his daughter] lady Anne his wife (father and mother of the said Anne Seyntleger), James and John, brothers of the said earl, [his grandfather] William Hangford, [his father] Richard-Hangford his son, Sir Richard Hangford, son of the said Richard, and [his grandson-in-law] James Seyntleger and Ambrose Griseacre, husbands of the said Anne Seyntleger, and James Seyntleger, her son. Also licence to alienate possessions to the annual value of £10 for the said chaplain. Greenwich, 12 March 10 Hen. VIII. Del. Westm., 4 April.
