Biography of Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford 1644-1723

On 28th April 1642 [his father] Francis Newport 1st Earl Bradford (age 22) and [his mother] Diana Russell Countess Bradford were married at St Giles' in the Fields Church [Map]. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Francis Russell 4th Earl Bedford and [his grandmother] Catherine Brydges Countess Bedford (age 62).

On 3rd September 1644 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford was born to Francis Newport 1st Earl Bradford (age 24) and Diana Russell Countess Bradford.

Around 1660 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 15) was awarded Master of Arts at Christ Church College, Oxford University.

Samuel Pepys' Diary. 1st June 1668. So to dinner, and then with Sir J. Minnes (age 69) to White Hall, and there attended the Lords of the Treasury and also a committee of Council with the Duke of York (age 34) about the charge of this year's fleete, and thence I to Westminster and to Mrs. Martin's, and did hazer what je would con her, and did once toker la thigh de su landlady, and thence all alone to Fox Hall, and walked and saw young Newport (age 23), and two more rogues of the town, seize on two ladies, who walked with them an hour with their masks on; perhaps civil ladies; and there I left them, and so home, and thence to Mr. Mills's, where I never was before, and here find, whom I indeed saw go in, and that did make me go thither, Mrs. Hallworthy and Mrs. Andrews, and here supped, and, extraordinary merry till one in the morning, Mr. Andrews (age 36) coming to us: and mightily pleased with this night's company and mirth I home to bed. Mrs. Turner (age 45), too, was with us.

In 1670 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 25) was elected MP Shropshire.

On 20th April 1681 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 36) and Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 19) were married. He the son of Francis Newport 1st Earl Bradford (age 61) and Diana Russell Countess Bradford.

In 1683 [his son] Henry Newport 3rd Earl Bradford was born to Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 38) and [his wife] Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 21).

In 1689 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 44) was elected MP Shropshire.

On 30th January 1695 [his mother] Diana Russell Countess Bradford died.

Around 1696 [his son] Thomas Newport 4th Earl Bradford was born to Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 51) and [his wife] Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 34).

In 1698 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 53) was elected MP Shropshire.

In 1701 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 56) was appointed Custos Rotulorum Montgomeryshire.

In 1704 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 59) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire.

In 1708 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 63) was appointed Custos Rotulorum Shropshire.

On 19th September 1708 [his father] Francis Newport 1st Earl Bradford (age 88) died at Twickenham, Richmond. His son Richard (age 64) succeeded 2nd Earl Bradford, 2nd Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, 3rd Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire. [his wife] Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 47) by marriage Countess Bradford.

In 1714 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 69) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire.

On 9th April 1719 [his son-in-law] Orlando Bridgeman 4th Baronet (age 23) and [his daughter] Anne Newport Lady Bridgeman were married. She the daughter of Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 74) and [his wife] Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 57).

Before 13th June 1723 [his son] Richard Newport died.

On 13th June 1723 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford (age 78) died at Soho Square [Map]. He was buried at St Andrew's Church, Wroxeter [Map]. His son [his son] Henry (age 40) succeeded 3rd Earl Bradford, 3rd Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, 4th Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire.

On 3rd December 1737 [his former wife] Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford (age 76) died in High Ercall, Shropshire. She was buried in Weston Park, Staffordshire.

[his daughter] Diane Newport was born to Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford and Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford.

[his daughter] Anne Newport Lady Bridgeman was born to Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford and Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford.

[his son] Richard Newport was born to Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford and Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford.
