Lay long, and then up and to Church, and so home, where there come and dined with me Harris (age 34), Rolt (age 39), and Bannister, and one Bland, that sings well also, and very merry at dinner, and, after dinner, to sing all the afternoon. But when all was done, I did begin to think that the pleasure of these people was not worth so often charge and cost to me, as it hath occasioned me. They being gone I and Balty (age 28) walked as far as Charing Cross [Map], and there got a coach and to Hales's (age 68) the painter, thinking to have found Harris sitting there for his picture, which is drawing for me. But he, and all this day's company, and Hales, were got to the Crown tavern, at next door, and thither I to them and stayed a minute, leaving Captain Grant (age 48) telling pretty stories of people that have killed themselves, or been accessory to it, in revenge to other people, and to mischief other people, and thence with Hales to his house, and there did see his beginning of Harris's picture, which I think will be pretty like, and he promises a very good picture.

On 26th July 1717 Charles Cadogan 2nd Baron Cadogan (age 32) and Elizabeth Sloane Baroness Cadogan (age 22) were married at Church of St George the Martyr, Queen Square. The marriage transferred the 250-acre (1.0 km2) Sloane estate in suburban Chelsea to the Cadogan family, which has been the basis of the family wealth ever since.

On 1st July 1738 Coventry Carew 6th Baronet (age 21) and Mary Bampfylde Lady Carew were married at Church of St George the Martyr, Queen Square. They were first cousins.

On 26th December 1823 John Dunn-Gardner (age 12) was baptised John Townshend at Church of St George the Martyr, Queen Square.

Before 1880 Maria Terpsithea Cassavetti aka Zambaco (age 36) studied art at the Slade School of Art under Alphonse Legros and Auguste Rodin.

Around 1902 Ambrose McEvoy (age 24) enrolled at the Slade School of Art.

From 1908 to 1912 Stanley Spencer (age 16) studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks. So attached to Cookham most days he would take the train back home in time for tea. It even became his nickname.

Around 1660 Southampton Square was developed on behalf of Thomas Wriothesley 4th Earl of Southampton 2nd Earl Chichester (age 52). The Earl's house Southampton House, subsequently Bedford House, occupied the north side.

On 24th November 1679 John "Old Sir John" Brownlow 1st Baronet (age 89) died without issue. Baronet Brownlow of Belton in Lincolnshire extinct. He left Belton House [Map] to his great-nephew John Brownlow 3rd Baronet (age 20) (grand-son of his brother William Brownlow 1st Baronet) and niece Alice Sherard Baroness Brownlow (age 20) (grand-daughter of his sister Elizabeth Brownlow ) who had married three years before in 1676. He also left them an income of £9,000 per annum and £20,000 in cash. They immediately bought a townhouse in Southampton Square.

On 9th April 1694 Southampton Square was the location of a duel between 23-year-old Scottish economist and financier John Law and Edward 'Beau' Wilson. Law killed Wilton with a single pass and thrust of his sword. Law would be convicted of murder and sentenced to death, but would escape his condemned cell and go on to become the founder of the Mississippi Company and the de facto prime minister of France.

On 13th July 1795 Arthur Hill-Trevor 2nd Viscount Dungannon (age 31) and Charlotte Fitzroy Viscountess Dungannon (age 28) were married at her father's house on Stanhope Street. She by marriage Viscountess Dungannon.

On 21st March 1797 Charles Fitzroy 1st Baron Southampton (age 59) died at his home on Stanhope Street. His son George (age 35) succeeded 2nd Baron Southampton.
