The History of William Marshal, Earl of Chepstow and Pembroke, Regent of England. Book 1 of 2, Lines 1-10152.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

His nephew John (age 39) succeeded 3rd Earl Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 3rd Viscount Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 4th Baron Erne of Crom Castle in Fermanagh. Selina Griselda Beresford Countess Erne (age 38) by marriage Countess Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh.

On 3rd October 1885 John Crichton 3rd Earl Erne (age 83) died. His son John (age 45) succeeded 4th Earl Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 4th Viscount Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 5th Baron Erne of Crom Castle in Fermanagh. Florence Mary Cole Countess Erne (age 36) by marriage Countess Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh.

On 2nd December 1914 John Crichton 4th Earl Erne (age 75) died. His grandson John (age 7) succeeded 5th Earl Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 5th Viscount Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 4th Baron Erne of Crom Castle in Fermanagh.

In 1931 John Crichton 5th Earl Erne (age 23) and Davidema Katharine Bulwer-Lytton Countess Erne (age 21) were married. She by marriage Countess Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh. She the daughter of Victor Bulwer-Lytton 2nd Earl of Lytton (age 54).

On 23rd May 1940 John Crichton 5th Earl Erne (age 32) died. His son Henry (age 2) succeeded 6th Earl Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 6th Viscount Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 7th Baron Erne of Crom Castle in Fermanagh.

On 5th November 1958 Henry Crichton 6th Earl Erne (age 21) and Camilla Marguerite Roberts Countess Erne (age 21) were married. She by marriage Countess Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh. He the son of John Crichton 5th Earl Erne and Davidema Katharine Bulwer-Lytton Countess Erne (age 49).

On 23rd December 2015 Henry Crichton 6th Earl Erne (age 78) died. His son John (age 44) succeeded 7th Earl Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 7th Viscount Erne of Crom Castle in County Fermanagh, 8th Baron Erne of Crom Castle in Fermanagh.
