The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 28th October 1449 [her father] Christian I King of Denmark (age 23) and [her mother] Dorothea of Brandenburg (age 18) were married.
On 23rd June 1456 Margaret Oldenburg was born to [her father] Christian I King of Denmark (age 30) and [her mother] Dorothea of Brandenburg (age 25).
On 3rd August 1460 King James II of Scotland (age 29) was killed accidentally whilst besieging Roxburgh Castle when a cannon exploded and he was hit by debris. He was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. His son [her future husband] James (age 9) succeeded III King Scotland.
William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 20) was present.
Before 26th April 1467 Thomas Boyd 1st Earl Arran and [her future sister-in-law] Mary Stewart Countess Arran (age 13) were married. The marriage arranged by his father, Regent Robert Boyd 1st Lord Boyd (age 47). The King, her elder brother [her future husband] King James III of Scotland (age 15) consider the marriage a great insult. He, Thomas, was subsequently charged with treason and when failing to appear in response to a summons, their marriage was declared null and void, and she was married to James Hamilton 1st Lord Hamilton (age 52). She the daughter of King James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland.
In July 1469 King James III of Scotland (age 17) and Margaret Oldenburg (age 13) were married at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. She by marriage Queen Consort Scotland. She the daughter of Christian I King of Denmark (age 43) and Dorothea of Brandenburg (age 38). He the son of King James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland.
On 17th March 1473 [her son] King James IV of Scotland was born to [her husband] King James III of Scotland (age 21) and Margaret Oldenburg (age 16) at Stirling Castle [Map]. He married 8th August 1503 his third cousin Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland, daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England, and had issue.
In March 1476 [her son] Archbishop James Stewart 1st Duke Ross was born to [her husband] King James III of Scotland (age 24) and Margaret Oldenburg (age 19).
Before 1477 [her brother-in-law] Alexander Stewart 1st Duke Albany (age 22) and Catherine Sinclair Duchess Albany (age 36) were married. She by marriage Duchess Albany. The marriage was subsequently regarded as illegitimate. She the daughter of William Sinclair 3rd Earl Orkney 1st Earl Caithness (age 66) and Elizabeth Douglas Countess Buchan and Orkney. He the son of King James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland. They were second cousins. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

In 1479 [her brother-in-law] John Stewart 1st Earl of Mar (age 23) died.
On 16th January 1479 [her brother-in-law] Alexander Stewart 1st Duke Albany (age 25) and Anne de la Tour Auvergne Duchess Albany were married. She by marriage Duchess Albany. She the daughter of Bertrand Auvergne VI Count Auvergne (age 62) and Louise de La Trémoïlle. He the son of King James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland.
In December 1479 [her son] John Stewart 1st Earl of Mar was born to [her husband] King James III of Scotland (age 28) and Margaret Oldenburg (age 23) at Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline.
On 21st May 1481 [her father] Christian I King of Denmark (age 55) died. His son [her brother] John (age 26) succeeded King of Denmark. [her sister-in-law] Christina Queen Consort Denmark Norway and Sweden (age 19) by marriage Queen Consort Denmark.
In 1483 [her brother] John King of Denmark Norway and Sweden (age 27) succeeded King Norway. [her sister-in-law] Christina Queen Consort Denmark Norway and Sweden (age 21) by marriage Queen Consort Norway.
On 7th August 1485 [her brother-in-law] Alexander Stewart 1st Duke Albany (age 31) was killed in a duel with Louis XII King France (age 23), possibly at a tournament. His son John (age 1) succeeded 2nd Duke Albany.
On 14th July 1486 Margaret Oldenburg (age 30) died.
On 11th June 1488 [her former husband] King James III of Scotland (age 36) was killed in action or attempting to escape, at the Battle of Sauchieburn. His son [her son] James (age 15) succeeded IV King Scotland.
Alexander Stewart 3rd of Garlies (age 45) fought.
Alexander Cunningham 1st Earl Glencairn (age 62) was killed. His son Robert (age 37) succeeded 2nd Earl Glencairn.
