On 29th April 1656 [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton (age 21) and [his mother] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 24) were married. She by marriage Countess Selkirk. He by marriage Duke Hamilton. She the daughter of [his grandfather] James Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and [his grandmother] Margaret aka Mary Feilding. He the son of [his grandfather] William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas (age 67) and [his grandmother] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas (age 56). They were third cousins.

On or before 17th February 1673, the date he was baptised, Archibald Hamilton was born to [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton (age 38) and [his mother] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 41).

In 1682 [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton (age 47) was appointed 486th Knight of the Garter by King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 51).

Before 6th May 1684 [his brother-in-law] John Murray 1st Duke Atholl (age 24) and [his sister] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl (age 22) were married. She by marriage Duchess Atholl. She the daughter of [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton (age 49) and [his mother] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 52). He the son of John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 53) and Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl (age 51). They were half fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

She the daughter of Robert Spencer 2nd Earl of Sunderland (age 44) and Anne Digby Countess Sunderland (age 40). In 1687 [his brother] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon (age 28) was appointed Order of the Thistle.

On 11th December 1693 Archibald Hamilton (age 20) was promoted to post-captain, he was given command of the fifth-rate HMS Sheerness in 1694 and of the fourth-rate HMS Lichfield in 1697.

On 18th April 1694 [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton (age 59) died. His son [his brother] James (age 36) succeeded 4th Duke Hamilton. His son [his brother] Charles (age 32) succeeded 2nd Earl Selkirk.

On 26th March 1695 Francis Hamilton 3rd Baronet (age 16) and [his future wife] Anne Hamilton were married.

On 25th November 1695 [his brother] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney (age 29) and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney (age 38) were married. He the son of [his father] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and [his mother] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 63). They were half second cousin once removed.

In 1707 [his sister] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl (age 45) died.

In or before 1709 Archibald Hamilton (age 35) and Anne Lucas (age 38) were married. He the son of William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 76).

Before 11th April 1709 [his wife] Anne Lucas (age 39) died.

In 1711 [his brother] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon (age 52) was created 1st Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 1st Baron Dutton of Cheshire. [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon (age 31) by marriage Duchess Brandon of Suffolk.

In 1711 Archibald Hamilton (age 37) was appointed Governor of Jamaica.

Hamilton-Mohun Duel

On 15th November 1712 Charles Mohun 4th Baron Mohun Okehampton (age 37) duelled with [his brother] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon (age 54) at Hyde Park [Map] over a legal dispute about the estate and inheritance of the late Earl Macclesfield. Mohun had married Charlotte Orby Baroness Mohun Okehampton grand-daughter of Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield. James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon had married [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon (age 32). The two seconds, Macartney and Colonel Hamilton, were both charged as accessories to murder. Hamilton gave himself up, Macartney fled into exile in Hanover. Colonel Hamilton was found guilty of manslaughter.

James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon died from wounds received duelling. His son [his nephew] James (age 9) succeeded 5th Duke Hamilton, 2nd Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 2nd Baron Dutton of Cheshire.

Charles Mohun 4th Baron Mohun Okehampton died from wounds received duelling; his father had also been killed in a duel. Baron Mohun Okehampton and Baronet Mohun of Boconnoc in Cornwall extinct.

On 17th October 1716 [his mother] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton (age 84) died.

On 17th December 1718 Archibald Hamilton (age 45) and Anne Hamilton were married. She died three months later. He the son of William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton.

On 23rd December 1718 Archibald Hamilton (age 45) was elected MP Lanarkshire at a by-election.

On 29th March 1719 [his wife] Anne Hamilton died. She was buried in the vault of Sir Goerge Villiers in the Chapel of St Nicholas, Westminster Abbey [Map] on the 4th April 1719.

On 29th September 1719 Archibald Hamilton (age 46) and Jane Hamilton (age 15) were married nine months after he married his second wife Anne Hamilton and six months after she died. The difference in their ages was 30 years. She the daughter of James Hamilton 6th Earl Abercorn (age 58). He the son of William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1720 [his daughter] Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Brooke Warwick Castle and Warwick was born to Archibald Hamilton (age 46). She married 15th May 1742 Francis Greville 1st Earl Brooke Warwick Castle 1st Earl Warwick, son of William Greville 7th Baron Brooke and Mary Thynne Baroness Brooke, and had issue.

On 19th August 1726 [his daughter] Jane Hamilton was born to Archibald Hamilton (age 53). She married 24th July 1753 Charles Cathcart 9th Lord Cathcart and had issue.

In 1728 [his son] Frederic Hamilton was born to Archibald Hamilton (age 54).

In 1730 [his son] William Hamilton was born to Archibald Hamilton (age 56).

On 28th November 1734 [his father-in-law] James Hamilton 6th Earl Abercorn (age 73) died. His son [his brother-in-law] James (age 48) succeeded 7th Earl Abercorn. Anne Plumer Countess Abercorn (age 44) by marriage Countess Abercorn.

On 29th January 1737 [his brother] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney (age 70) died. His daughter [his niece] Anne succeeded 2nd Countess Orkney.

In 1738 Frederick Louis Hanover Prince of Wales (age 30) bought Park Place, Berkshire from Archibald Hamilton (age 64).

Around 1739 [his brother] Charles Hamilton 2nd Earl Selkirk (age 77) died. His brother [his brother] John (age 75) succeeded 2nd Earl Selkirk.

On 27th March 1742 Archibald Hamilton (age 69) was elected MP Dartmouth at a by-election.

In 1744 [his son] Archibald Hamilton drowned.

In 1744 [his brother] John Hamilton 1st Earl Ruglen 3rd Earl Selkirk (age 80) died. His daughter [his niece] Anne (age 47) succeeded 2nd Countess Ruglen.

On 11th January 1744 [his brother-in-law] James Hamilton 7th Earl Abercorn (age 57) died. His son James (age 31) succeeded 8th Earl Abercorn.

In 1751 [his son] Charles Hamilton died.

The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.
