Marriage of James I of Scotland and Joan Beaufort

On 12th February 1424 [his father] King James I of Scotland (age 29) and [his mother] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 20) were married at Southwark Cathedral [Map]. She by marriage Queen Consort Scotland. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and [his grandmother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence (age 39). He the son of [his grandfather] King Robert III of Scotland and [his grandmother] Annabella Drummond Queen Consort Scotland. They were half fourth cousin twice removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King John of England. She a great granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

On 16th October 1430 King James II of Scotland was born to King James I of Scotland (age 36) and Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 26). He a great x 2 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Assassination of King James I of Scotland

On 21st February 1437 [his father] King James I of Scotland (age 42) was assassinated at Blackfriars. He was buried at Carthusian Charterhouse, Perth. His son James (age 6) succeeded II King Scotland. His wife, [his mother] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 33), managed to escape.

Before 21st September 1439 [his step-father] James "Black Knight of Lorn" Stewart (age 44) and [his mother] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 35) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and [his grandmother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence (age 54).

Douglas Black Dinner

On 24th November 1440 William Crichton 1st Lord Crichton arranged a dinner of reconciliation at the Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle. During the course of the dinner the young brothers William Douglas 3rd Duke Touraine (age 16) and David Douglas (age 10) was beheaded in front of the young King James II of Scotland (age 10).

On 15th July 1445 [his mother] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 41) died at Dunbar Castle, Dunbar. She was buried at Perth Charterhouse.

On 3rd July 1449 King James II of Scotland (age 18) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 15) were married at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. She the daughter of Arnold Egmont Duke Guelders (age 38) and Catherine La Marck (age 32). He the son of King James I of Scotland and Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 2 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 19th May 1450 [his son] Unamed Stewart was born to King James II of Scotland (age 19) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 16). He died the same day. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Between 1451 and 15th June 1452 Robert Boyd 1st Lord Boyd (age 31) was created 1st Lord Boyd by King James II of Scotland (age 20). On 15th June 1452 King James II of Scotland confirmed the charter of Robert Boyd, Lord of Kilmarnock and of Dalry, conveying one-third of the lands of Lynn in Dalry to Robert Boyd [indweller] of Lynn. He took his seat in Parliament on 18th July 1454.

On 10th July 1451 [his son] King James III of Scotland was born to King James II of Scotland (age 20) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 17). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 22nd February 1452 William Douglas 8th Earl Douglas 2nd Earl Avondale (age 27) was murdered by King James II of Scotland (age 21) at Edinburgh Castle [Map] for refusing to desist from conspiring with Alexander Lindsay 4th Earl Crawford (age 29). His brother James (age 26) succeeded 9th Earl Douglas, 3rd Earl Avondale.

1452 Battle of Brechin

On 18th May 1452 the Battle of Brechin was fought between supporters of King James II of Scotland (age 21) and his rellious nobility including the Black Douglases. Alexander Gordon 1st Earl Huntley defeated the rebels led by Alexander Lindsay 4th Earl Crawford (age 29) on behalf on the King. John Lindsay (age 29), and the brothers William Gordon and Henry Gordon, were killed.

On 13th May 1453 [his daughter] Mary Stewart Countess Arran was born to King James II of Scotland (age 22) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 19) at Stirling Castle [Map]. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Around 1454 [his son] Alexander Stewart 1st Duke Albany was born to King James II of Scotland (age 23) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 20). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Around 1455 [his son] David Stewart was born to King James II of Scotland (age 24) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 21). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In August 1455 George Crichton 1st Earl Caithness (age 46) died. Earl Caithness reverted to the Crown following a disagreement between George Crichton 1st Earl Caithness and his son James Crichton from inheriting. James Crichton had imprisoned his father in Blackness Castle; he was rescued by King James II of Scotland (age 24).

Around 1456 [his son] John Stewart 1st Earl of Mar was born to King James II of Scotland (age 25) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 22). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Around 1460 [his daughter] Princess Margaret Stewart was born to King James II of Scotland (age 29) and [his wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 26). She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

1460 Siege of Roxburgh

On 3rd August 1460 King James II of Scotland (age 29) was killed accidentally whilst besieging Roxburgh Castle when a cannon exploded and he was hit by debris. He was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. His son [his son] James (age 9) succeeded III King Scotland.

William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 20) was present.

A Brief Latin Chronicle. 1460. About this time, James, King of Scotland (age 29), nobly governed his people, restraining thieves and oppressors, expanding agriculture, and maintaining holy justice. In the year of our Lord 1460, with his army, he besieged Roxburgh Castle and was killed by his own cannon, which burst while he stood by it. However, his army demolished the same castle and then withdrew.

Circiter istud tempus Jacobus rex Scocie populum suum nobiliter rexit, fures et oppressores cohibens, agriculturam amplians, sanctam(?) justiciam servans. Hic anno Domini 1460, cum suo exercitu obsedit castrum Rokisburgh et per propriam gunnam suam diruptam, cui astitit, interfectus est. Exercitus tamen ejus idem castrum prostravit et recessit.

On 1st December 1463 [his former wife] Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 29) died at Roxburgh Castle, Roxburgh. She was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood.
