Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Before 18th November 1828 [his father] James Drummond Fullerton Elphinstone [aged 40] and [his mother] Anna Maria Buller were married.

On 18th November 1828 William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone was born to James Drummond Fullerton Elphinstone [aged 40] and Anna Maria Buller.

In 1857 [his father] James Drummond Fullerton Elphinstone [aged 69] died.

On 13th January 1861 John Elphinstone-Fleming 14th Lord Elphinstone [aged 41] died. His second cousin William [aged 32] succeeded 15th Lord Elphinstone. [his future wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 22] by marriage Lord Elphinstone.

In 1864 William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 35] and Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 25] were married. She the daughter of Alexander Murray 6th Earl Dunmore and Catherine Herbert Countess Dunmore [aged 49]. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1865 [his son] James Drummond Elphinstone was born to William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 36] and [his wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 26].

On 5th April 1866 [his brother-in-law] Charles Adolphus Murray 7th Earl Dunmore [aged 25] and Gertrude Coke [aged 19] were married. She the daughter of Thomas Coke 2nd Earl of Leicester [aged 43] and Juliana Whitbread Countess Leicester [aged 40]. He the son of Alexander Murray 6th Earl Dunmore and [his mother-in-law] Catherine Herbert Countess Dunmore [aged 51].

In 1867 [his daughter] Lilian Elphinstone was born to William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 38] and [his wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 28].

On 27th July 1869 [his son] Sidney Herbet Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 16th Lord Elphinstone was born to William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 40] and [his wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 30] at Carberry Tower, Musselburgh. He married 24th July 1910 Mary Frances Bowes-Lyon Lady Elphinstone, daughter of Claude Bowes-Lyon 14th Earl Strathmore and Kinghorne and Cecilia Nina Cavendish-Bentinck Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and had issue.

In 1871 [his son] Mountstuart William Fullerton Elphinstone was born to William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 42] and [his wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 32].

In 1873 [his daughter] Constance Lothian Fullerton Elphinstone was born to William Buller Fullerton Elphinstone 15th Lord Elphinstone [aged 44] and [his wife] Constance Euphemia Woronzow Murray Lady Elphinstone [aged 34].
