On 16 Dec 1332 the Battle of Annan Moor was fought between the supporters of the seven year old King David II of Scotland (age 8), son of King Robert the Bruce I of Scotland, and the supporters of King Edward I of Scotland (age 49), supported by the English. The Bruce army, led by, Archibald Douglas (age 34), supported by John Randolph 3rd Earl of Moray (age 26) and King Robert II of Scotland (age 16) surprised King Edward I of Scotland and his supporters at Annan and threw them out of Scotland.

On 25 Mar 1333 the Battle of Dornock was fought between the supporters of the seven year old King David II of Scotland (age 9), son of King Robert the Bruce I of Scotland, and the supporters of King Edward I of Scotland (age 50), supported by the English, commanded by Ralph Dacre 1st Baron Dacre Gilsland (age 43). The English army quickly overwhelmed the Scottish force. William "Flower of Chivalry and Knight Liddesdale" Douglas 1st Earl Atholl (age 33) was captured and spent two years in prison.

Order to discharge the Abbot of Hayles of £50 Yearly, which he used to pay for the town of Leechelade [Map] to the late Edmund Earl of Cornwall, and, after his death, to the late King, the king having granted the earldom of Cornwall and all the lands of the said Edmund to Peter de Gavaston (age 23), knight.
To the like favour of Michael de Meldon for 4 marks annually for his lands in Worton.
On 31 Dec 1733 Robert Grierson 1st Baronet (age 78) died at his house in Dumfries [Map].

John of Fordun's Chronicle of the Scottish Nation Book 4 Chapter 117. 1305. The same year, after the aforesaid Robert (age 30) had left the king of England (age 65) and returned home, no less miraculously than by God's grace, a day is appointed for him and the aforesaid John (age 36) to meet together at Dumfries [Map]; and both sides repair to the above-named place. John Comyn is twitted with his treachery and belied troth. The lie is at once given. The evil-speaker is stabbed, and wounded unto death, in the church of the Friars [Map]; and the wounded man is, by the friars, laid behind the altar. On being asked by those around whether he could live, straightway his answer is: - "I can." His foes, hearing this, give him another wound; - and thus was he taken away from this world on the 10th of February.
On 10 Feb 1305 John Comyn 3rd Lord Baddenoch (age 36) was murdered by Robert the Bruce (age 30), future King of Scotland, before the High Altar of the Greyfriars Monastery Chapel [Map]. Robert Comyn, John's uncle, was killed by Christopher Seton (age 27). Christopher's brother John Seton (age 27) was also present.
Murder, in a church, in front of the altar, regarded as a terrible crime. The act gave King Edward I of England (age 65) cause to invade Scotland. Robert the Bruce was ex-communicated by the Pope for his actions.
King Edward I of England charged Bishop David de Moravia as being complicit in the murder.

Before 22 Jun 1776 William Byron (age 26) and Juliana Elizabeth Byron were married having eloped to Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire. They were first cousins.
01 Nov 1784 01 Nov 1784 Edward Nightingale 10th Baronet (age 24) and Eleanor Nightingale Lady Nightingale were married at, firstly, Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire, and secondly, The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Bassingbourn [Map]. They were first cousins.
On 24 Oct 1809 John Margetts Brewer and Sarah Dunn-Gardner Marchioness Townshend were married bigamously at Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire. She was, at the time, married to George Ferrers Townshend 3rd Marquess Townshend (age 30) although they had separated on 08 May 1808. The couple had a number of children who adopted the surname Townshend until delegitimated in 1843 by a private Act of Parliament and barred from using the surname Townshend.
On 07 Mar 1827 Ellen Turner (age 16) was abducted from Margaret Daulby's elite boarding school for girls in Liverpool by, Edward Thevenot, a servant of Edward Gibbon Wakefield (age 30). Edward Gibbon Wakefield and Ellen Turner were married at Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire, she believing she was marrying to protect her father from financial ruin. After the marriage they set out for France, another jurisdiction, where he intended they settle as man and wife. He was subsequently arrested, tried and imprisoned.
In Aug 1835 the 1835 Marriage Act made marriage between those of certain degrees of affinity (in-laws) and consanguinity (blood) as defined in the Anglican Book of Common Prayer illegal including marrying the spouse of one's deceased relative. Those with sufficient funds could overcome the prohibition by marrying abroad. Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire also appears to have been outside the jurisdiction of the Act.
On 28 Sep 1840 George Edward Waldegrave 7th Earl Waldegrave (age 24) and Frances Braham Countess Waldegrave (age 19) were married at Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire thereby avoiding the constraint of the 1835 Marriage Act. He being the legitimate younger brother of her first husband John James Waldegrave; an example of Married to Two Siblings. He the son of John James Waldegrave 6th Earl Waldegrave. He a great x 4 grandson of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland.
On 02 Jun 1840 Archibald William Douglas 8th Marquess Queensberry (age 22) and Caroline Clayton Marchioness Queensbury (age 19) were married at Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire having eloped against the wishes of his father. They had five sons and two daughters. He the son of John Douglas 7th Marquess Queensberry (age 61).

On 01 May 1455 the Douglas rebellion was brought to an end at the Battle of Arkinholm near Langholm. Archibald Douglas Earl of Moray (age 29) was killed. Hugh Douglas 1st Earl Ormonde was executed. John Douglas (age 22) escaped.
