In 1825 [his father] William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton [aged 24] and [his mother] Eleanor Paget were married.
On 23rd June 1829 Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton was born to William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton [aged 28] and Eleanor Paget.
On 20th September 1854 Charles Pierrepont Darcy Lane-Fox [aged 24] was wounded, Poulett George Henry Somerset [aged 32] fought.
Major-General John Douglas [aged 37] commanded the 79th Regiment of Foot.
William Frederick Waldegrave [aged 38] died from wounds received.
Henry Hugh Manvers Percy [aged 37] was shot through the arm.
General George Augustus Frederick Paget [aged 36], Godfrey Morgan 1st Viscount Tredegar [aged 23] and Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 25] fought.
Arthur Williams-Wynn [aged 35], Captain of the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers, was killed.
On 25th October 1854 during the Battle of Balaclava George Charles Bingham 3rd Earl Lucan [aged 54] gave the order for the Charge of the Light Brigade which was then led by his brother-in-law James Brudenell 7th Earl Cardigan [aged 57].
Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 25] took part.
Godfrey Morgan 1st Viscount Tredegar [aged 23] was in command of a section of the Light Brigade. His horse "Sir Briggs" survived, died aged twenty-eight and was buried in the Cedar Garden at Tredegar House, Monmouthshire where there is a monument to him.
Thomas Hutton took part. He was shot through the right thigh during the advance, and on returning from the guns he was again severely wounded through the left thigh.
George Orby Wombwell 4th Baronet [aged 21] took part and survived. His horse was killed under him and he was shortly after pulled off and taken prisoner, his sword and pistols being taken from him by some Russian Lancers. He managed to escape, catch another loose horse and ride back to the British lines, pursued by Russians.
Fiennes Wykeham-Martin Cornwallis [aged 22] took part.
On 5th November 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman..

Poulett George Henry Somerset [aged 32] fought; his horse was killed under him by a shell.
William Archer Amherst 3rd Earl Amherst [aged 18] was wounded.
Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 25] and Edwyn Sherard Burnaby [aged 24] fought.
Captain William Kent Allix [aged 31] was killed in action whilst serving with the 1st Royal Regiment.
Robert Lydston Newman 2nd Baronet [aged 32] was killed in action. His brother Lydston [aged 30] succeeded 3rd Baronet Newman of Stokeley and Mamhead in Devon.
Charles Francis Seymour-Conway [aged 35] was killed in action.
On 2nd August 1855 Charles William Molyneux 3rd Earl Sefton [aged 59] died. His son [his future brother-in-law] William [aged 19] succeeded 4th Earl Sefton, 11th Viscount Molyneux, 12th Baronet Molyneux of Sefton. [his sister] Cecil Emily Jolliffe Countess Sefton [aged 17] by marriage Countess Sefton.
In 1858 Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 28] and Agnes Mary Georgiana Byng [aged 24] were married. She the daughter of George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 51] and Agnes Paget. They were second cousins.
On 8th June 1859 [his brother-in-law] Francis Edmund Cecil Byng 5th Earl Strafford [aged 24] and Florence Louisa Miles [aged 19] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 53] and Agnes Paget.
On 23rd July 1862 [his mother] Eleanor Paget died.
On 10th November 1862 [his son] Hylton Jolliffe 3rd Baron Hylton was born to Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 33] and [his wife] Agnes Mary Georgiana Byng [aged 29]. He married 1896 his half fifth cousin Alice Adeliza Hervey Baroness Hylton, daughter of Frederick William John Hervey 3rd Marquess of Bristol and Geraldine Anson Marchioness of Bristol, and had issue.
On 15th October 1863 [his brother-in-law] Henry Byng 4th Earl Strafford [aged 32] and Henrietta Louisa Elizabeth Danneskiold Samsøe [aged 27] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 57] and Agnes Paget. They were fourth cousins.
On 16th July 1866 [his father] William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton [aged 65] was created 1st Baron Hylton of Hylton in County Durham.
On 18th July 1866 [his brother-in-law] William Molyneux 4th Earl Sefton [aged 30] and [his sister] Cecil Emily Jolliffe Countess Sefton [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Countess Sefton. He the son of Charles William Molyneux 3rd Earl Sefton and Mary Augusta Gregg-Hopwood Countess Sefton [aged 52].
On 4th August 1866 [his brother-in-law] Francis Edmund Cecil Byng 5th Earl Strafford [aged 31] and Emily Georgina Kerr Countess Strafford [aged 19] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 60] and Agnes Paget. They were fifth cousins.
On 19th January 1867 [his father] William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton [aged 66] and [his step-mother] Sophia Penelope Sheffield Countess Ilchester [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Baroness Hylton of Hylton in County Durham. The difference in their ages was 41 years.
Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 1st June 1876 [his father] William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton [aged 75] died. His son Hedworth [aged 46] succeeded 2nd Baron Hylton of Hylton in County Durham.
On 7th April 1878 [his former wife] Agnes Mary Georgiana Byng [aged 44] died.
In 1896 [his son] Hylton Jolliffe 3rd Baron Hylton [aged 33] and [his daughter-in-law] Alice Adeliza Hervey Baroness Hylton [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Frederick William John Hervey 3rd Marquess of Bristol [aged 61] and Geraldine Anson Marchioness of Bristol [aged 62]. They were half fifth cousins.
In 1899 [his sister] Cecil Emily Jolliffe Countess Sefton [aged 61] died.
On 31st October 1899 Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton [aged 70] died. His son Hylton [aged 36] succeeded 3rd Baron Hylton of Hylton in County Durham. Alice Adeliza Hervey Baroness Hylton [aged 25] by marriage Baroness Hylton of Hylton in County Durham.
