On 19th August 1778 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury was born to James Harris 1st Earl Malmesbury [aged 32] and Harriet Maria Amyand Countess Malmesbury [aged 17].

In 1802 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 23] was elected MP Helston.

In 1804 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 25] was elected MP Horsham.

On 17th June 1806 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 27] and Harriet Susan Dashwood [aged 23] were married. He the son of James Harris 1st Earl Malmesbury [aged 60] and Harriet Maria Amyand Countess Malmesbury [aged 45].

In 1807 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 28] was elected MP Heytesbury.

On 25th March 1807 [his son] James Harris 3rd Earl Malmesbury was born to James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 28] and [his wife] Harriet Susan Dashwood [aged 24]. He married 13th May 1830 Corisande Emma Bennet Countess Malmesbury, daughter of Charles Augustus Bennet 5th Earl Tankerville and Corisande Armandine Sophie Léonie Hélène Gramont Countess Tankerville.

On 20th May 1808 [his son] Admiral Edward Harris was born to James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 29] and [his wife] Harriet Susan Dashwood [aged 25].

On 4th September 1815 [his wife] Harriet Susan Dashwood [aged 32] died. Memorial in Christchurch Priory [Map] sculpted by John Flaxman [aged 60].

Harriet Susan Dashwood: In 1783 she was born to Francis Bateman Dashwood. On 17th June 1806 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury and she were married. He the son of James Harris 1st Earl Malmesbury and Harriet Maria Amyand Countess Malmesbury.

In 1816 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 37] was elected MP Wilton.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 21st November 1820 [his father] James Harris 1st Earl Malmesbury [aged 74] died. His son James [aged 42] succeeded 2nd Earl Malmesbury, 2nd Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 2nd Baron Malmesbury.

On 13th May 1830 James Harris 3rd Earl Malmesbury [aged 23] and Corisande Emma Bennet Countess Malmesbury [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Countess Malmesbury. She the daughter of Charles Augustus Bennet 5th Earl Tankerville [aged 54] and Corisande Armandine Sophie Léonie Hélène Gramont Countess Tankerville [aged 47]. He the son of James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 51] and Harriet Susan Dashwood.

On 20th August 1830 [his mother] Harriet Maria Amyand Countess Malmesbury [aged 69] died.

On 10th September 1841 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury [aged 63] died. His son James [aged 34] succeeded 3rd Earl Malmesbury, 3rd Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 3rd Baron Malmesbury.
