Before 1598 [his father] William Herbert 1st Baron Powis [aged 24] and [his mother] Eleanor Percy Baroness Herbert [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Henry Percy 8th Earl of Northumberland and [his grandmother] Katherine Neville Countess Northumberland. They were half third cousin once removed.

In 1598 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis was born to William Herbert 1st Baron Powis [aged 25] and Eleanor Percy Baroness Herbert [aged 15].

In 1621 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 23] was elected MP Shaftesbury.

On 6th November 1622 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 24] was knighted/.

On 16th November 1622 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 24] was created 1st Baronet Powis of Red Castle in Montgomeryshire.

Before 1626 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 27] and Elizabeth Craven Baroness Herbert [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Lady Powis of Red Castle in Montgomeryshire.

In 1626 [his son] William Herbert 1st Marquess Powis was born to Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 28] and [his wife] Elizabeth Craven Baroness Herbert [aged 26]. He married July 1654 his fourth cousin Elizabeth Somerset Marchioness Powis, daughter of Edward Somerset 2nd Marquess Worcester and Elizabeth Dormer, and had issue.

On 12th March 1627 [his brother-in-law] William Craven 1st Earl Craven [aged 18] was created 1st Baron Craven of Hamstead Marshall in Berkshire with a special remainder to his brothers John [aged 16], who was later created Baron Craven of Ryton, and Thomas, both of whom predeceased William, rendering the remainder ineffective.

On 2nd April 1629 [his father] William Herbert 1st Baron Powis [aged 56] was created 1st Baron Powis of Powis Castle in Powys. [his mother] Eleanor Percy Baroness Herbert [aged 46] by marriage Baroness Powis of Powis Castle in Powys.

In 1650 [his mother] Eleanor Percy Baroness Herbert [aged 67] died.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

In July 1654 [his son] William Herbert 1st Marquess Powis [aged 28] and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Somerset Marchioness Powis [aged 19] were married. She the daughter of Edward Somerset 2nd Marquess Worcester [aged 52] and Elizabeth Dormer. They were fourth cousins.

On 7th March 1655 [his father] William Herbert 1st Baron Powis [aged 82] died. He was buried at St Mary and Christ Church, Hendon Barnet. His son Percy [aged 57] succeeded 2nd Baron Powis of Powis Castle in Powys. [his wife] Elizabeth Craven Baroness Herbert [aged 55] by marriage Baroness Powis of Powis Castle in Powys.

In 1662 [his wife] Elizabeth Craven Baroness Herbert [aged 62] died.

On 19th January 1667 Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis [aged 69] died. His son William [aged 41] succeeded 3rd Baron Powis of Powis Castle in Powys, 2nd Baronet Powis of Red Castle in Montgomeryshire. Elizabeth Somerset Marchioness Powis [aged 32] by marriage Baroness Powis of Powis Castle in Powys.

[his daughter] Mary Herbert was born to Percy Herbert 2nd Baron Powis and Elizabeth Craven Baroness Herbert. She married her sixth cousin George Talbot, son of John Talbot 10th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Fortescue Countess Shrewsbury and Waterford.
