On 14th November 1897 Charles Frederick Smythe 7th Baronet [aged 78] died. His brother John [aged 70] succeeded 8th Baronet Smythe.

On 5th March 1919 John Smythe 8th Baronet [aged 91] died. His son Edward [aged 49] succeeded 9th Baronet Smythe.

On 9th March 1942 Edward Walter Joseph Patrick Herbert Smythe 9th Baronet [aged 72] died at Church Stretton, Shropshire. Baronet Smythe extinct.
