On 19th March 1844 William Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale [aged 86] died at York House Twickenham, Richmond. His son William [aged 56] succeeded 2nd Earl Lonsdale, 3rd Viscount Lowther, 3rd Baron Lowther.

On 4th March 1872 William Lowther 2nd Earl Lonsdale [aged 84] died. His nephew Henry [aged 53] succeeded 3rd Earl Lonsdale, 4th Viscount Lowther, 4th Baron Lowther.

On 15th August 1876 Henry Lowther 3rd Earl Lonsdale [aged 58] died. His son George [aged 20] succeeded 4th Earl Lonsdale, 5th Viscount Lowther, 5th Baron Lowther.

On 6th July 1878 George Henry Lowther 4th Earl Lonsdale [aged 22] and Constance Gwladys Herbert Marchioness Ripon [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Countess Lonsdale. He the son of Henry Lowther 3rd Earl Lonsdale.

On 8th February 1882 George Henry Lowther 4th Earl Lonsdale [aged 26] died at a house in London he had purchased for Connie Gilchrist [aged 17] and other girls of the Gaiety Theatre. He bequeathed the house, and a sizeable legacy, to Gilchrist. His brother Hugh [aged 25] succeeded 5th Earl Lonsdale, 6th Viscount Lowther, 6th Baron Lowther. Grace Cecilie Gordon Countess Lonsdale [aged 27] by marriage Countess Lonsdale.

On 13th April 1944 Hugh Cecil Lowther 5th Earl Lonsdale [aged 87] died. His brother Lancelot [aged 76] succeeded 6th Earl Lonsdale, 7th Viscount Lowther, 7th Baron Lowther.

On 11th March 1953 Lancelot Edward Lowther 6th Earl Lonsdale [aged 85] died. His grandson James [aged 30] succeeded 7th Earl Lonsdale, 8th Viscount Lowther, 8th Baron Lowther.

On 9th September 1954 James Lowther 7th Earl Londsdale [aged 31] and Jennifer Lowther Countess Lonsdale [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Countess Lonsdale. They were third cousins.

Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

On 6th March 1963 James Lowther 7th Earl Londsdale [aged 40] and Nancy Ruth Cobbs Countess Lowther were married. She by marriage Countess Lonsdale.

On 4th December 1975 James Lowther 7th Earl Londsdale [aged 53] and Caroline Sheila Ley Countess Lowther [aged 32] were married. She by marriage Countess Lonsdale. The difference in their ages was 20 years.

On 23rd May 2006 James Lowther 7th Earl Londsdale [aged 83] died. His son Hugh [aged 56] succeeded 8th Earl Lonsdale, 9th Viscount Lowther, 9th Baron Lowther.

On 22nd June 2021 Hugh Lowther 8th Earl Lonsdale [aged 72] died. His half brother William [aged 63] succeeded 9th Earl Lonsdale, 10th Viscount Lowther, 10th Baron Lowther.
