Baron Holand (1st Creation)

In 1314 Robert Holland 1st Baron Holand (age 31) was created 1st Baron Holand by writ of summons to Parliament. Maud Zouche Baroness Holand by marriage Baroness Holand.

In 1328 Robert Holland 1st Baron Holand (age 45) died. His son Robert Holland 2nd Baron Holand (age 17) succeeded 2nd Baron Holand.

On 16 Mar 1373 Robert Holland 2nd Baron Holand (age 62) died. His sister Maud Holland 3rd Baroness Holand, Baroness Lovel (age 63) succeeded 3rd Baroness Holand.

In or before 1375 John Lovell 5th Baron Lovel, Baron Holand (age 34) and Maud Holland 3rd Baroness Holand, Baroness Lovel (age 64) were married. She by marriage Baroness Lovel of Titchmarsh. He by marriage Baron Holand. The difference in their ages was 31 years; she, unusually, being older than him. They were fourth cousins. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

On 28 Feb 1463 John Lovell 8th Baron Lovel 5th Baron Holand (age 30) died. On 28 Feb 1463 His son Francis Lovell 1st Viscount Lovell (age 7) succeeded 9th Baron Lovel of Titchmarsh, 6th Baron Holand at around eight years of age. He became a ward of King Edward IV of England (age 20) who gave his wardship to Richard "Kingmaker" Neville Earl Warwick, 6th Earl Salisbury (age 34) spending his childhood at Middleham Castle [Map] with the young (future) King Richard III of England (age 10).

On 16 Jun 1487 a Lancastrian army defeated a Yorkist army at the Battle of Stoke Field; considered by many to be the last battle of the Wars of the Roses.

Lambert Simnel (age 10) fought and was captured. He was pardoned by King Henry VII and put to work in the in the royal kitchen as a spit-turner. When he grew older, he became a falconer. Almost no information about his later life is known.

Francis Lovell 1st Viscount Lovell (age 31) fought and escaped. He was attainted. Baron Deincourt, Baron Lovel of Titchmarsh, Baron Holand forfeit.

Baron Holand (2nd Creation)

In 1352 Thomas Holland 1st Earl Kent (age 38) was created 1st Earl Kent, 1st Baron Holand.

On 25 Apr 1397 Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 47) died. He was buried in Bourne Abbey, Lincolnshire [Map]. His son Thomas Holland 1st Duke Surrey (age 23) succeeded 3rd Earl Kent, 2nd Baron Holand, 7th Baron Wake of Liddell. Joan Stafford Countess Kent (age 19) by marriage Countess Kent.

On 07 Jan 1400 at Cirencester, Gloucestershire [Map] Ralph Lumley 1st Baron Lumley (age 40) was beheaded by the townspeople following an unsuccessful attempt to seize the town. Baron Lumley forfeit.

Thomas Holland 1st Duke Surrey (age 26) was beheaded. He had to forfeit the honours and estates he had gained after the arrests of Gloucester and Arundel: Duke Surrey extinct. He retained those he had received before: His brother Edmund Holland 4th Earl Kent (age 16) succeeded 4th Earl Kent, 3rd Baron Holand, 8th Baron Wake of Liddell.

John Montagu 3rd Earl Salisbury (age 50) was captured, tried and beheaded. Earl Salisbury, Baron Montagu, Baron Montagu forfeit.

Bernard Brocas (age 46) was captured.

On 15 Sep 1408 Edmund Holland 4th Earl Kent (age 24) was killed at Île de Bréhat during the Battle of Île de Bréhat. He was buried in Bourne Abbey, Lincolnshire [Map]. Earl Kent, Baron Holand extinct.
