The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Biography of Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings 1810-1858

On 22 Apr 1799 (age 70) died without suviving male issue. Earl of Sussex and Viscount Longueville and Baronet Yelverton of Easton Maudit in Northamptonshire extinct. His grandson [her father] Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 18) succeeded 19th Baron Grey of Ruthyn. Note. Many sources describe his death as 1779 which would be inconsistent with Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 18) succeeding.

Before 20 May 1810 [her father] Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 29) and [her step-mother] Anna Maria Kellam (age 17) were married.

On 20 May 1810 Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings was born to Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 29).

On 29 Oct 1810 [her father] Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 30) died without male issue. His daughter Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings succeeded 20th Baroness Grey of Ruthyn 1324 aged seven months.

On 28 Nov 1826 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 71) died. His son [her future husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 18) succeeded 2nd Marquess Hastings, 3rd Earl Moira, 18th Baron Botreaux, 17th Baron Hungerford, 15th Baron Moleyns and 15th Baron Hastings. Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 16) by marriage Marchioness Hastings.

On 01 Aug 1831 George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 23) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 21) were married. He the son of Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings and (age 51).

On 02 Jun 1832 [her son]  was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 24) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 22).

On 10 Dec 1833 [her daughter] Edith Maud Rawdon-Hastings 10th Countess Loudon was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 25) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 23).

In 1835 [her daughter] Bertha Lelgarde Rawdon-Hastings 22nd Baroness Grey Ruthyn was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 26) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 24).

In 1837 [her daughter] Victoria Maria Louisa Rawdon-Hastings was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 28) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 26).

Death of Flora Hastings

On 05 Jul 1839 [her sister-in-law] Flora Elizabeth Rawdon-Hastings (age 33) died. She had suffered a swelling in her abdomen. She refused an examination. Rumours were spread, by among others the future Queen Victoria (age 20), that she was pregnant. When Lady Flora (age 33) did finally consent to an examination she was found to an advanced cancerous liver tumour, and had only months left to live. The future Queen Victoria (age 20) visited Lady Flora on 27 Jun 1839 eight days before her death.

On 08 Jan 1840 [her mother-in-law]  (age 60) died. Her son [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 31) succeeded 7th Earl Loudon.

On 22 Jul 1842 [her son] Henry Weysford Charles Plantagenet Rawdon-Hastings 4th Marquess Hastings was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 34) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 32).

In 1844 [her daughter]  was born to [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 35) and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 33).

On 13 Jan 1844 [her husband] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings (age 35) died. His son [her son]  (age 11) succeeded 3rd Marquess Hastings, 8th Earl Loudon, 4th Earl Moira, 19th Baron Botreaux, 18th Baron Hungerford, 16th Baron Moleyns and 16th Baron Hastings.

On 30 Apr 1853 [her son-in-law] Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings 1st Baron Donington (age 30) and [her daughter] Edith Maud Rawdon-Hastings 10th Countess Loudon (age 19) were married. She the daughter of George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings and (age 42).

Before 22 Nov 1856 [her son-in-law] Augustus Wykeham Clifton (age 27) and [her daughter] Bertha Lelgarde Rawdon-Hastings 22nd Baroness Grey Ruthyn (age 21) were married. She the daughter of George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings and (age 46).

On 18 Nov 1858 Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings (age 48) died.
