On 11th February 1715 [his daughter] Margaret Cavendish Harley 2nd Duchess Portland was born to Edward Harley 2nd (age 25) and [his wife] Henrietta Cavendish Holles Countess of Oxford and Mortimer (age 21). She married 11th June 1734 her sixth cousin William Bentinck 2nd Duke Portland, son of Henry Bentinck 1st Duke Portland and Elizabeth Noel Duchess Portland, and had issue.
On 5th January 1719 Thomas Hay 7th Earl Kinnoull (age 59) died. His son [his brother-in-law] George (age 29) succeeded 8th Earl Kinnoull. [his sister] Abigail Harley Countess Kinnoul (age 29) by marriage Countess Kinnoull.

On 18th October 1725 [his son] Henry Cavendish Harley was born to Edward Harley 2nd (age 36) and [his wife] Henrietta Cavendish Holles Countess of Oxford and Mortimer (age 31). He died aged less than one years old.

On 16th June 1741 Edward Harley 2nd (age 52) died. His half first cousin Edward (age 42) succeeded 3rd Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer. Martha Morgan Countess of Oxford and Mortimer (age 42) by marriage Countess of Oxford and Countess Mortimer.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." A collection of manuscripts made by [his father] Robert Harley, first earl of Oxford, and augmented by his son Edward, the second earl. It consisted of some 50,000 books, 350,000 pamphlets, and over 7,000 volumes of manuscripts, including early biblical texts in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew, texts of classical authors and church fathers, papal bulls and registers, deeds, charters, state papers, etc. The manuscripts were bought by Parliament in 1753 and placed in the British Museum. They are now in the British Library.
