The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1834 John Foster Barham and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] James Walter Grimston 1st Earl Verulam and [his grandmother] Charlotte Jenkinson Countess Verulam.

On 3rd July 1839 [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon were married. She by marriage Countess Clarendon. She the daughter of [his grandfather] James Walter Grimston 1st Earl Verulam and [his grandmother] Charlotte Jenkinson Countess Verulam.

On 11th February 1846 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon was born to [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon at the Vice Regal Lodge, Dublin.

On 17th August 1860 [his brother-in-law] Edward Bootle Wibraham 1st Earl Lathom and [his sister] Alice Villiers Countess Lathom were married. She the daughter of [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon.

On 31st May 1864 [his brother-in-law] Frederick Arthur Stanley 16th Earl of Derby and [his sister] Constance Villiers Countess Derby were married. She the daughter of [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon. He the son of Edward Smith-Stanley 14th Earl of Derby and Emma Caroline Bootle-Wilbraham Countess Derby.

On 5th May 1868 [his brother-in-law] Odo Russell 1st Baron Ampthill and [his sister] Emily Theresa Villiers Baroness Ampthill were married. She the daughter of [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon.

In 1869 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon was elected MP Breconshire which seat he held until 1870.

On 27th June 1870 [his father] George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon died. Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon succeeded 5th Earl Clarendon, 5th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.

In 1874 [his mother] Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon died.

On 6th September 1876 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon and Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon were married at Harbridge, Someroy. She by marriage Countess Clarendon. She the daughter of James Charles Agar 3rd Earl Normanton and Caroline Susan Augusta Barrington Countess Normanton. He the son of George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon.

On 7th June 1877 [his son] George Herbert Hyde Villiers 6th Earl Clarendon was born to Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon and [his wife] Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon at 31 Upper Brook Street, Mayfair. He married 1905 Adeline Verena Ishbel Cocks Countess of Clarendon.

In 1878 [his daughter] Edith Villiers Countess Mount Edgecumbe was born to Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon and [his wife] Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon She married 1911 Piers Edgcumbe 5th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, son of William Henry Edgecumbe 4th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and Katherine Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

In 1880 [his brother-in-law] Edward Bootle Wibraham 1st Earl Lathom was created 1st Earl Lathom. [his sister] Alice Villiers Countess Lathom by marriage Countess Lathom.

In 1881 [his brother-in-law] Odo Russell 1st Baron Ampthill was created 1st Baron Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire. [his sister] Emily Theresa Villiers Baroness Ampthill by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

On 21st April 1893 Edward Henry Stanley 15th Earl of Derby died at Knowsley, Lancashire. [his brother-in-law] Frederick Arthur Stanley 16th Earl of Derby succeeded 16th Earl Derby, 10th Baronet Stanley of Bickerstaffe. [his sister] Constance Villiers Countess Derby by marriage Countess Derby.

On 9th May 1894 [his wife] Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon died.

In 1897 [his sister] Alice Villiers Countess Lathom died.

In 1911 [his son-in-law] Piers Edgcumbe 5th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and [his daughter] Edith Villiers Countess Mount Edgecumbe were married. There was no issue from the marriage. She the daughter of Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon and [his former wife] Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon. He the son of William Henry Edgecumbe 4th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and Katherine Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

On 2nd October 1914 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon died at The Grove, Watford. [his son] George Herbert Hyde Villiers 6th Earl Clarendon succeeded 6th Earl Clarendon, 6th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756. [his daughter-in-law] Adeline Verena Ishbel Cocks Countess of Clarendon by marriage Countess Clarendon.
