The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." Before 24th April 1586 [his father] Francis Hastings (age 26) and [his mother] Sarah Harrington (age 21) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] George Hastings 4th Earl Huntingdon (age 46) and [his grandmother] Dorothy Port Countess Huntingdon.

Around 1590 George Hastings was born to Francis Hastings (age 30) and Sarah Harrington (age 25).

On 17th December 1595 [his father] Francis Hastings (age 35) died.

In 1614 George Hastings (age 24) was elected MP Leicestershire.

On 1st May 1619 George Hastings (age 29) and Seymour Prynne were married. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 9th February 1621 George Hastings (age 31) was elected MP Leicestershire.

In 1625 and 1626 George Hastings (age 35) was elected MP Leicester.

Before 1628 [his step-father] Thomas Edmondes (age 64) and [his mother] Sarah Harrington (age 62) were married.

In 1629 [his mother] Sarah Harrington (age 64) died.

On 1st July 1641 George Hastings (age 51) died of plague.

On 4th July 1641 George Hastings (deceased) was buried at the Church of St Bartholomew the Great. Administration of his estate was granted to his widow [his wife] Seymour Prynne on 10 August. His sons all died unmarried
