The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.
Around 1795 [her father] Charles Gregory Pigot aka Fairfax (age 27) and [her mother] Mary Goodricke were married.
On 12th December 1804 Harriet Fairfax was born to Charles Gregory Pigot aka Fairfax (age 36) and Mary Goodricke.
Around February 1838 Francis Cholmeley (age 27) and Harriet Fairfax (age 33) were married.
On 28th January 1845 [her mother] Mary Goodricke died.
On 29th December 1845 [her father] Charles Gregory Pigot aka Fairfax (age 77) died. Gilling Castle, North Yorkshire [Map] appears to have been inherited by his two daughters [her sister] Lavinia Fairfax (age 43) and Harriet Fairfax (age 41) and their husbands Reverend James Alexander Barnes (age 47), Rector of Gilling, and [her husband] Francis Cholmeley (age 35) respectively.
On 3rd August 1855 [her husband] Francis Cholmeley (age 44) died.

On 17th August 1860 Harriet Fairfax (age 55) died at Gilling Castle, North Yorkshire [Map].
In 1885 [her sister] Lavinia Fairfax (age 83) died without issue. Gilling Castle, North Yorkshire [Map] was inherited by the descendants of her sister Harriet Fairfax who had married [her former husband] Francis Cholmeley.
