Biography of Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet 1614-1686

In 1614 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet was born to James Oxenden of Deane and Margaret Nevinson.

In or before 1641 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 26) and Elizabeth Meredith were married.

On 4th April 1641 [his son] James Oxenden 2nd Baronet was born to Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 27) and [his wife] Elizabeth Meredith.

In 1645 [his son] Henry Oxenden 3rd Baronet was born to Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 31) and [his wife] Elizabeth Meredith.

In 1645 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 31) was elected MP Winchelsea.

In October 1651 [his son] George Oxenden was born to Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 37) and [his wife] Elizabeth Meredith.

In 1654 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 40) was elected MP Kent and 1656.

In 1659 [his wife] Elizabeth Meredith died.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In or before 1666 [his son-in-law] Robert Booth (age 39) and [his daughter] Susanah Oxenden were married.

On 6th May 1678 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 64) was created 1st Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent.

In 1686 Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 72) died. His son [his son] James (age 44) succeeded 2nd Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent.
