Biography of Henry Poole of Sapperton 1541-1616

In 1541 Henry Poole of Sapperton was born to Giles Poole (age 25).

Around 1586 [his daughter] Ann Poole was born to Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 45) and Ann Wroughton.

In 1587 Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 46) was knighted.

In 1588 Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 47) was appointed High Sheriff of Gloucestershire.

On 24th February 1589 [his father] Giles Poole (age 73) died.

Around 1592 [his son] Henry Poole was born to Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 51) and Ann Wroughton.

In 1593 Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 52) was elected MP Gloucestershire.

In 1603 Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 62) was appointed High Sheriff of Gloucestershire.

Around 1616 [his daughter] Ann Poole (age 30) died.

On 31st August 1616 Henry Poole of Sapperton (age 75) died. He was buried in Sapperton, Gloucestershire.

St Kenelm's Churtch, Sapperton [Map]. There is a very fine collection of monuments. In the north transept is a large Renaissance tomb of Sir Henry Poole who died in 1616, with kneeling marble effigies of him and his family. There is also a recumbent stone knight and Renaissance canopy, on the east wall of the north transept, by Gildo or Gildon of Hereford. In south transept there is a substantial monument to Sir Robert Atkyns, the historian of Gloucestershire who died in 1711, by Edward Stanton.
