Biography of John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe 1772-1835

Paternal Family Tree: Offley aka Crewe

In 1766 [his father] John Crewe 1st Baron Crewe (age 23) and [his mother] Frances Anne Greville (age 17) were married.

In 1772 John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe was born to John Crewe 1st Baron Crewe (age 29) and Frances Anne Greville (age 23).

Around 1790 John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 18) joined the army. In 1793, when he held the rank of a lieutenant, he was a member of the Macartney Embassy to China, led by Lord Macartney, who was his mother's cousin. Crewe rose to the rank of Major-General in 1808, Lieutenant-General in 1813 and full General in 1830, before retiring in 1831. He lost the sight in one eye during active service.

On 5th May 1807 John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 35) and Henrietta Maria Anna Walker-Hungerford were married. She the heiress to a substantial fortune derived from her father's family's Barbados sugar plantations. They had three daughters and a son.

On 10th August 1812 [his son] Hungerford Crewe 3rd Baron Crewe was born to John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 40) and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Anna Walker-Hungerford.

In 1814 [his daughter] Annabella Hungerford Crewe was born to John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 42) and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Anna Walker-Hungerford.

On 28th April 1829 [his father] John Crewe 1st Baron Crewe (age 86) died. His son John (age 57) succeeded 2nd Baron Crewe of Crewe in Cheshire.

In 1833 John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 61) was awarded compensation by Parliament for the loss of his "property" at Four Hills and The Rock, sugar plantation estates on Barbados that he had acquired through his wife.

On 4th December 1835 John Crewe 2nd Baron Crewe (age 63) died. His son [his son] Hungerford (age 23) succeeded 3rd Baron Crewe of Crewe in Cheshire.
