Biography of John Danvers 1588-1655

Paternal Family Tree: Danvers

Maternal Family Tree: Aoife NI Diarmait Macmurrough Countess Pembroke and Buckingham 1145-1188

In or before 1568 [his father] John Danvers (age 27) and [his mother] Elizabeth Neville (age 17) were married. They were half fourth cousin once removed.

Before 3rd March 1582 Richard Herbert (age 25) and [his future wife] Magdalen Newport were married.

On 28th June 1588 John Danvers was born to John Danvers (age 48) and Elizabeth Neville (age 38).

On 19th December 1594 [his father] John Danvers (age 54) died said to have been of a broken heart following the disgrace of his sons [his brother] Charles Danvers (age 26) and [his brother] Henry Danvers 1st Earl Danby (age 21).

In 1598 [his step-father] Edmund Carey (age 40) and [his mother] Elizabeth Neville (age 48) were married. The marriage was, perhaps, a means of procuring a pardon for her two sons who had previously shot and killed a neighbour, and fled abroad. A payment was made to the bereaved family and the sons were allowed to return. They were fourth cousins.

In March 1609 John Danvers (age 20) and Magdalen Newport were married. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 22nd May 1622 John Astley was appointed Master of the Revels but sold his interest to [his step-son] Henry Herbert (age 27) by 1623.

On 10th July 1628 John Danvers (age 40) and Elizabeth Dauntsey were married.

On 1st May 1629 [his daughter] Elizabeth Danvers was born to John Danvers (age 40) and [his wife] Elizabeth Dauntsey.

In 1630 [his mother] Elizabeth Neville (age 80) died.

On 1st March 1633 [his step-son] George Herbert (age 39) died.

On 5th December 1633 [his son] Henry Danvers was born to John Danvers (age 45) and [his wife] Elizabeth Dauntsey.

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 9th July 1636 [his wife] Elizabeth Dauntsey died.
