The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." Biography of John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley 1762-1827

Before 4th April 1762 [his father] Peter Leicester 4th Baronet (age 30) and [his mother] Catherine Fleming were married.

On 4th April 1762 John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley was born to Peter Leicester 4th Baronet (age 30) and Catherine Fleming at Tabley House, Cheshire.

In 1770 [his father] Peter Leicester 4th Baronet (age 38) died. His son John (age 7) succeeded 5th Baronet Leicester of Timogue in Queen's County.

On 9th November 1810 John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley (age 48) and Georgiana Cottin Baroness Tabley (age 16) were married. The difference in their ages was 31 years.

On 28th October 1811 [his son] George Leicester aka Warren 2nd Baron Tabley was born to John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley (age 49) and [his wife] Georgiana Cottin Baroness Tabley (age 17). King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 49) was his godfather. He was educated at Eton College [Map] and Christ Church College, Oxford University.

On 16th July 1826 John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley (age 64) was created 1st Baron Tabley. [his wife] Georgiana Cottin Baroness Tabley (age 32) by marriage Baroness Tabley.

On 18th April 1827 John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley (age 65) died at Tabley House, Cheshire. His son [his son] George (age 15) succeeded 2nd Baron Tabley, 6th Baronet Leicester of Timogue in Queen's County.

On 10th July 1828 Reverend Frederick Leicester (age 25) and [his former wife] Georgiana Cottin Baroness Tabley (age 34) were married. She the former wife of his uncle John Fleming Leicester 1st Baron Tabley who had died fifteen months before. As the Church of England prohibited aunt-nephew marriages, Frederick resigned from his post to avoid expulsion. The union forfeited £500 of Georgina's annual £1,500 widow's jointure.

In 1859 [his former wife] Georgiana Cottin Baroness Tabley (age 65) died.
