Biography of John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet 1756-1831

On 25th July 1756 John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet was born to John Shaw 4th Baronet (age 27).

On 26th January 1774 John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 17) matriculated Trinity College, Oxford University.

On 31st October 1776 John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 20) was awarded MA by Trinity College, Oxford University.

On 18th June 1779 [his father] John Shaw 4th Baronet (age 50) died. He was buried at the Church of Holy Trinity, Eltham on 26th June 1779. His son John (age 22) succeeded 5th Baronet Shaw of Eltham in Kent.

On 9th March 1782 John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 25) and Theodosia Margaret Monson Lady Shaw (age 19) were married at St Marylebone Church. She by marriage Lady Shaw of Eltham in Kent.

On 15th March 1783 [his son] John Kenward Shaw 6th Baronet was born to John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 26) and [his wife] Theodosia Margaret Monson Lady Shaw (age 20).

On 18th August 1785 [his son] Captain Charles Shaw was born to John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 29) and [his wife] Theodosia Margaret Monson Lady Shaw (age 22).

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 28th October 1831 John Gregory Shaw 5th Baronet (age 75) died. His son [his son] John (age 48) succeeded 6th Baronet Shaw of Eltham in Kent.

On 24th October 1847 [his former wife] Theodosia Margaret Monson Lady Shaw (age 85) died.
