Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

Paternal Family Tree: Townshend
In 1787 [his grandfather] George Townshend 1st Marquess Townshend [aged 62] and [his mother] Georgiana Anne Poyntz [aged 23] were married. The difference in their ages was 39 years.
On 28th March 1798 John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend was born to [his father] John Townshend [aged 41] and [his mother] Georgiana Anne Poyntz [aged 34] at Balls Park, Hertford.
On 18th August 1825 John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend [aged 27] and Elizabeth Jane Stuart [aged 22] were married.
Before 1826 [his daughter] Audrey Jane Charlotte Townshend was born to John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend [aged 27] and [his wife] Elizabeth Jane Stuart [aged 22]. She married (1) before 28th July 1880 Greville Theophilus Howard, son of Charles Howard 17th Earl Suffolk 10th Earl Berkshire and Isabella Catherine Mary Howard-Molyneux-Howard Countess Suffolk and Berkshire (2) 1882 General Redvers Henry Buller.
On 10th April 1831 [his son] John Villiers Stuart Townshend 5th Marquess Townshend was born to John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend [aged 33] and [his wife] Elizabeth Jane Stuart [aged 27]. He married 17th October 1865 Anne Elizabeth Clementina Duff Marchioness Townshend, daughter of James Duff 5th Earl Fife and Agnes Georgiana Elizabeth Hay Countess Fife, and had issue.
On 25th February 1833 [his father] John Townshend [aged 76] died.
On 4th May 1851 [his mother] Georgiana Anne Poyntz [aged 88] died.
On 31st December 1855 George Ferrers Townshend 3rd Marquess Townshend [aged 77] died in Genoa. Earl of Leicester extinct. Baron Ferrers of Chartley and Baron Compton of Compton in Warwickshire abeyant. His first cousin John [aged 57] succeeded 4th Marquess Townshend, 7th Viscount Townsend, 7th Baron Townshend of Lynn Regis in Norfolk, 9th Baronet Townshend.
In 1856 [his son-in-law] John St Aubyn 1st Baron St Levan [aged 26] and Elizabeth Clementina Townshend Baroness St Levan were married. She the daughter of John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend [aged 57] and Elizabeth Jane Stuart [aged 52]. They were sixth cousins.
On 10th September 1863 John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend [aged 65] died at Raynham Hall, Norfolk. He was buried at the Church of All Saints, Hertford. His son John [aged 32] succeeded 5th Marquess Townshend, 8th Viscount Townsend, 8th Baron Townshend of Lynn Regis in Norfolk, 10th Baronet Townshend.
Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

In 1872 Edward Thynne [aged 64] eloped with [his daughter-in-law] Anne Elizabeth Clementina Duff Marchioness Townshend [aged 24] wife of John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend. She being some forty years younger than Edward Thynne.
On 27th January 1877 [his former wife] Elizabeth Jane Stuart [aged 73] died.
[his daughter] Elizabeth Clementina Townshend Baroness St Levan was born to John Townshend 4th Marquess Townshend and Elizabeth Jane Stuart. She married 1856 her sixth cousin John St Aubyn 1st Baron St Levan, son of Edward St Aubyn 1st Baronet and Emma Knollys, and had issue.
