The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 3rd November 1929 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe was born to Ralph Assheton 1st Baron Clitheroe (age 28) and Sylvia Benita Frances Hotham Baroness Clitheroe.
Between 1948 and 1949 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 18) completed his National Service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Life Guards.
In 1954 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 24) graduated from Christ Church College, Oxford University with a BA.
In 1956 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 26) graduated from Christ Church College, Oxford University with a MA.
From 1973 to 1987 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 43) was Chairman of RTZ Chemicals.
In 1984 [his father] Ralph Assheton 1st Baron Clitheroe (age 82) died. His son Ralph (age 54) succeeded 2nd Baron Clitheroe of Downham in Lancashire, 3rd Baronet Assheton of Downham in Lancaster.
From 1990 to 1999 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 60) served as Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire.
From 1990 to 1999 Ralph John Assheton 2nd Baron Clitheroe (age 60) served as Chairman of the Yorkshire Bank which had been acquired by the National Australia Bank in 1990.
