The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 27th October 1753 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet was born to John Buxton.

On 22nd May 1777 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 23) and Juliana Mary Beevor were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square.

On 13th August 1788 [his son] John Jacob Buxton 2nd Baronet was born to Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 34).

In 1790 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 36) was elected MP Thetford and held the seat until 1796.

In 1797 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 43) was elected MP Great Bedwyn and held the seat until 1806.

On 25th November 1800 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 47) was created 1st Baronet Buxton of Shadwell Lodge in Norfolk.

On 5th August 1825 [his son] John Jacob Buxton 2nd Baronet (age 36) and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Cholmeley were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square.

On 7th June 1839 Robert John Buxton 1st Baronet (age 85) died. His son [his son] John (age 50) succeeded 2nd Baronet Buxton of Shadwell Lodge in Norfolk.
