Biography of Roger North of Mildenhall 1577-1651

Before 18th February 1577 [his father] Henry North of Mildenhall, Suffolk and [his mother] Mary Knevit were married.

On 18th February 1577 Roger North of Mildenhall was born to Henry North of Mildenhall, Suffolk and Mary Knevit.

In or before 1609 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 31) and Elizabeth Gilbert were married. They had two sons and a daughter.

Around 1609 [his son] Henry North 1st Baronet was born to Roger North of Mildenhall (age 31) and [his wife] Elizabeth Gilbert.

On 29th November 1612 [his wife] Elizabeth Gilbert died.

After 29th November 1612 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 35) and Thomasine Clence were married.

In 1620 [his father] Henry North of Mildenhall, Suffolk died.

In 1621 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 43) was elected MP Eye.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." In 1624 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 46) was elected MP Suffolk.

In 1625 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 47) was elected MP Eye which seat he held until 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament for eleven years.

In or before 1632 [his son] Henry North 1st Baronet (age 22) and [his daughter-in-law] Sarah Rayney Lady North were married.

In April 1640 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 63) was elected MP Eye. He was re-elected in Nov 1640 and sat until 1648 when he was excluded by Pride's Purge.

On 17th June 1651 Roger North of Mildenhall (age 74) died.

[his daughter] Mary North was born to Roger North of Mildenhall and Elizabeth Gilbert.
