The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1679 [his aunt] Frances Manners. Her nephew William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway inherited her estates at which time he adopted the additional surname Arundell.

In or before 1725 [his father] John Monckton 1st Viscount Galway (age 29) and [his mother] Elizabeth Manners Viscountess Galway (age 15) were married. She by marriage Viscountess Galway. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland and [his grandmother] Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland.

In 1725 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway was born to John Monckton 1st Viscount Galway (age 30) and Elizabeth Manners Viscountess Galway (age 16).

On 22nd March 1730 [his mother] Elizabeth Manners Viscountess Galway (age 21) died.

In November 1734 [his father] John Monckton 1st Viscount Galway (age 39) and Jane Westenra Viscountess Galway were married. She by marriage Viscountess Galway.

In 1747 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 22) was elected MP Pontefract which seat he held until 1748.

In or before 1749 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 23) and Elizabeth Villareal Viscountess Galway were married.

In 1749 [his son] Henry William Monckton Arundeell 3rd Viscount Galway was born to William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 24) and [his wife] Elizabeth Villareal Viscountess Galway.

In 1749 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 24) was elected MP Thirsk which seat he held until 1754.

On 15th July 1751 [his father] John Monckton 1st Viscount Galway (age 56) died. His son William (age 26) succeeded 2nd Viscount Galway. [his wife] Elizabeth Villareal Viscountess Galway by marriage Viscountess Galway.

On 4th July 1752 [his son] Robert Monckton-Arundell 4th Viscount Galway was born to William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 27) and [his wife] Elizabeth Villareal Viscountess Galway.

In 1754 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 29) was elected MP Pontefract which seat he held until 1772.

In 1765 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 40) was appointed Master of the Staghounds.

In 1772 William Monckton aka Monckton-Arundell 2nd Viscount Galway (age 47) died. His son [his son] Henry (age 23) succeeded 3rd Viscount Galway.
