In April 1339 Ralph Dacre 1st Baron Dacre Gilsland (age 49) died at Naworth Castle [Map]. His son William (age 20) succeeded 2nd Baron Dacre Gilsland.

In 1370 Joan Dacre was born to Hugh Dacre 4th Baron Dacre of Gilsland, Baron Multon of Gilsand (age 35) and Elizabeth Maxwell Countess Atholl (age 35) at Naworth Castle [Map]. Date adjusted from 1379 to accommodate her mother's death in 1370.

On 1st January 1370 Elizabeth Maxwell Countess Atholl (age 35) died at Naworth Castle [Map].

On 8th July 1453 Philippa Neville Baroness Dacre of Gilsland (age 67) died at Naworth Castle [Map].

Chronicle of William of Worcester [1415-1482]. In the month of July [1462], Lord Hastings, Ralph Gray, a knight, and many others besieged the castle of Alnwick, where William Tailboys was captain. He surrendered it to them on certain terms, with his life, limbs, horses, goods, and armour preserved, etc. Ralph Gray was appointed to guard it. The castle of Naworth [Map] was surrendered to the Lord Montagu. Lord Dacres submitted under certain conditions to the Lord Montagu.

Mense Julii [....] dominus de Hastyngys, Radulfus Gray, miles, et multi alii obsederunt castrum de Alnewyke, ubi Wyllelmus Taylboys fuit capitaneus, qui eis illud reddit sub appunctuamento, salvis vita, membris, equis, bonis, et harnesiis, etc. Et commissus est Radulfus Gray ad custodiendum. Et castrum de Newarde redditum est domino de Monteacuto. Et dominus de Dacres reddidit se sub certis appunctuamentis domino de Montagu.

Life of Lady Magdalen Viscountess Montagu. The most Hoble and Vertuous Lady Magdalen Viscountesse Montague, was borne in England, of most Noble & Catholike parents, at Naward Castell [Map], the Mansion-house of her Father, scituat in the County of Cumberland, not far from the borders of Scotland, the yeare of Christ 1538 the 20 of January. Her Father was William Lord Dacre, Baron of Ghisland (age 45), a man, besides the most ancient Nobility of his family, of such power and estate, as that he possessed seauen Baronyes (which scarce any Noble man of England ever had) and was of eminent authority in the North parts of England, and both himselfe and his ancestors of very famous esteeme in England, in regard of their notable prowesse in matters of warre, for the safety and honour of their Country.

On 20th January 1538 Magdalen Dacre Viscountess Montague was born to William Dacre 3rd Baron Dacre Gilsland 7th Baron Greystoke (age 45) and Elizabeth Talbot Baroness Dacre of Gilsland (age 31) at Naworth Castle [Map]. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.57%.

On 7th April 1578 Mary Dacre (age 14) died in Naworth Castle [Map].

On 29th August 1588 Francis Howard was born to William Howard (age 24) and Elizabeth Dacre (age 23) at Naworth Castle [Map].

In 1603 William Howard was born to Philip Howard (age 21) and Margaret Caryll (age 18) at Naworth Castle [Map].

On 9th October 1639 Elizabeth Dacre (age 74) died in Naworth Castle [Map].

On 7th October 1640 William Howard (age 76) died at Naworth Castle [Map]. He was buried at Greystoke, Cumberland.
