A shrouded upright effigy in white marble within a round-headed niche flanked by black marble columns with Corinthian Capitals and scrolled pediment with the Sherborne arms at the centre, above. Monument to James Lenox Dutton and his second wife Jane Bond sculpted by Richard "The Elder" Westmacott (age 29) in 1791. Remarkable for the quality of the carving and the stone (probably Carrara Marble) and the skeleton. Believed to be called Immortality Trampling Death. Life-sized angel leans on a medallion with profiles of the deceased, underfoot a prostrate skeleton (representing death).

Jane Bond: James Lenox Dutton and she were married. she was born to Christopher Bond. On 29th May 1776 she died.

On 22nd May 1820 James Dutton 1st Baron Sherborne (age 75) died. His son John (age 40) succeeded 2nd Baron Sherborne. He was buried in the Saint Mary Magdalene's Church, Sherborne [Map]. Monument sculpted by William "The Younger" Theed (age 16). Trefoil-headed niche containing full figure of a woman holding a cross.

John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne: On 24th June 1779 he was born to James Dutton 1st Baron Sherborne and Elizabeth Coke Baroness Sherborne. Before 1804 John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne and Mary Bilson Legge Baroness Sherborne were married. She by marriage Baroness Sherborne.

On 26th July 1845 Elizabeth Howard (age 42) died. She was buried in the Saint Mary Magdalene's Church, Sherborne [Map]. Monument sculpted by William "The Younger" Theed (age 41).

Elizabeth Howard: In 1803 she was born to Thomas Howard 16th Earl Suffolk 9th Earl Berkshire and Elizabeth Jane Dutton Countess Suffolk and Berkshire. On 22nd June 1826 James Henry Legge Dutton 3rd Baron Sherborne and she were married. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 16th Earl Suffolk 9th Earl Berkshire and Elizabeth Jane Dutton Countess Suffolk and Berkshire. They were first cousins.

On 27th June 1858 Anne Constance Dutton Baroness Dunsany (age 41) died. She was buried in the Saint Mary Magdalene's Church, Sherborne [Map]. Monument sculpted by Thomas Gaffin.

Anne Constance Dutton Baroness Dunsany: On 12th September 1816 she was born to John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne. On 22nd September 1846 Edward Plunkett 16th Baron Dunsany and she were married. On 7th April 1852 Randall Edward Plunkett 15th Baron Dunsany died. His brother Edward succeeded 16th Baron Dunsany. She by marriage Baroness Dunsany.

On 19th October 1862 John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne (age 83) died. His son James (age 58) succeeded 3rd Baron Sherborne. He was buried in Saint Mary Magdalene's Church, Sherborne [Map]. Monument to John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne and Mary Bilson Legge Baroness Sherborne.

James Henry Legge Dutton 3rd Baron Sherborne: On 30th May 1804 he was born to John Dutton 2nd Baron Sherborne and Mary Bilson Legge Baroness Sherborne. On 8th March 1883 James Henry Legge Dutton 3rd Baron Sherborne died. His son Edward succeeded 4th Baron Sherborne. Emily Theresa Stern Baroness Sherborne by marriage Baroness Sherborne.

Mary Bilson Legge Baroness Sherborne: she was born to Henry Bilson Legge 2nd Baron Stawell and Mary Curzon Baroness Stawell. On 21st October 1864 Mary Bilson Legge Baroness Sherborne died.

In 1857 Ralph Heneage Dutton was elected MP South Hampshire. In 1865 Ralph Heneage Dutton was elected MP Cirencester.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.
